Amazon or Anything - Putting a Video that's NOT Yours on Your Website

I don't get it. I see tons of people with websites that actually put a video (URL) of a product that they're reviewing onto their content. However, that video wasn't made by them, nor uploaded by them. Do we NEED to get the uploader/owners permission? Because I thought that was the case? I just don't get it how so many site owners have these videos on their site when it's not theirs at all.

So if someone can clarify for me, that would be great. Thanks!

Youtube not only allows you to embed the videos of others, they even give you the code to do so.

Also, when a user uploads a video to Youtube, they have the option of allowing or not allowing others to embed the video.

So yes, it's perfectly fine to use YT videos that allow embedding on your web pages.

If there is an embed code then the producer of the video does not care if anyone else uses it. I would not however use someone else's video on my sites if their name was mentioned in it. You are then promoting their business and there is no profit in that

Actually, this can often be a good strategy.

For example, Justin Bieber releases a new video. You embed it on your web page, then link to your own page and promote the video through social sites (Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, etc) with links like "check out Justin Bieber's new video".

Add Justin Bieber posters from All Posters and Justin Bieber concert tickets from Ebay's Partner Network.

This strategy can leverage the popularity of popular, trending videos in a legal and ethical way.

While you can embed other people's videos on your site, it's not always a good idea -- especially if the user mentions their url in the video. It could actually cost you traffic. It's best if you upload your own or use a generic one created by the manufacturer that everyone promoting the product has access to.

Of course. I'm not going to post some other person reviewing a product or something or whatever and at the end they have multiple links saying "Come visit me come come come!"

What you want to do is include a video that's related. For example, if you are reviewing a computer, include a video for maintenance tips. If you are good and have the tools, you can even create your own videos (started doing this just this month and they actually turn out very, very good).

The image below shows what I've started doing on my own sites. See how much more legit the site becomes? It looks even better when I have one of my own product-specific vids but this works too.

Videos are great to reduce bounce rate and increase onpage time per visitor. I try to use them regular on my blogs.
