How To Move Wordpress Blog To New Server

I want to consolidate my hosting accounts, what is the best/simplest/easiest way to move a wordpress blog from one server to another?

Do I need to buy one of those software products, wp cloner, wp manager etc, or is it easy to do without any fancy tools?

    Hello

In order to move a Wordpress blog without purchasing any software you will need to download both the files and the database.

    1. Log into your current hosting account and go to file manager. If your website is in the main directory you will need to zip up and download the whole public html folder. If it is an addon domain then zip up and download the folder where the files reside.

    2. Next go into PHPMyadmin and locate and download the database.

    3. Change nameservers on the domain name.

    4. Go to new hosting account.

    5. Create database - be sure to note down your database name, username and password.

    6. Go to phpmyadmin, and upload your database file.

    7. Go to file manager and upload the zip file containing all of your website files.

    8. Open up wp-config.php file and change your database name, username and password to your new one.

    Hope this helps

I did it with a free plugin called backup move (remember to download the restore.php on that page)

Also effective for moving to different domains too!

I prefer the free plugin WordPress Move. Just install it on your current Wordpress site and on the new Wordpress installation on your other hosting account and fill in the FTP information and few other items and your good to go. I've used it so many times now that I can move a site in less than 15 minutes no problem.

You may want to also move all of your email to the new host? In that case just ask the new host if they will do a Cpanel to Cpanel transfer. That will move everything (WordPress and Email) and you don't need to do a thing yourself.

I was not aware that such a request was even possible, I'm not opening a new account so there is no carrot for the other hosting company other than keeping me happy, but if that was possible it would save a big amount of work, I'll certainly ask if it's possible, I'm going to be moving accounts to hostgator which has a good reputation so maybe I'll get lucky

It's not possible as that is the same as running a "full backup" using the cPanel utility. When doing a "cPanel to cPanel transfer", one server simply logs into to the other, tar's up the account (package - compresses.. tar.gz) transfers the backup over and restores it.

It's the same way we as hosts move backups from one server to another when bringing a new customer over. Move the full backup (if cPanel) over and restore it to the new server.

When you're adding addon domains or subdirectories, this is not a way that will work since the process packages up the entire account. I'd recommend asking them if they'll move your files over for you. It's not that much effort however, many larger web hosts will not do this.

What I'm referring to is the cPanel to cPanel transfer. From what I gather from your original post, the account is already active on the new server/combine hosting accounts.

The cPanel to cPanel / WHM to WHM transfer moves "whole" accounts. So, if you're looking to take additional accounts and add them to one as "addon domains" this will not work, it will have to be done manually.

If you have a reseller plan, and are looking to move additional accounts onto the reseller plan, then this "will" work & your hosting provider should be able to handle this for you.

Even moving a few sites manually isn't too hard. It all depends on what the hosting provider is willing to do. For small sites, we tend to just move them if a customer requests - it's not rocket science & this way it's done correctly.

Are you looking to consolidate your accounts onto a shared plan or a reseller plan?

Stay away from the wordpress move plugins. They are for noobs and they can corrupt your database.

What you should do is transfer your files using ssh and scp. You should compress your whole site in order to save your current permissions. Then you make a backup of your MySQL either through SSH or from your control panel (either will work).

I was literally able to move my blog in less than 10 minutes a few weeks ago following this method. I won't explain SSH and SCP, so learn that from a guide somewhere.

      Simply untrue.

I have been using WPTwin for about 2+ years now to backup, clone, and move full Wordpress installations and I have never once had a problem.

Don't go around labeling all products as the same because it's not true and you are just spreading misinformation. If you are still backing up and/or moving your Wordpress installs manually, you are wasting a whole heap of your time for no reason.

I've never had that problem using WordPress Move. But even if for some weird reason it did corrupt the database it would be a corrupted backup of the database not the original.

I just used the chat facility at my host. I had them move 50 wp sites for me. Charged me $75 which was a bargain in my opinion as it saved me a ton of time.

You can ask your new hosting provider to move your site else go to file manager and zip all files from public html and download, goto php myadmin export your data base
Create a new data base in new server and import it there, upload downloded zip file in new server and extract it, edit wp config and enter new data base details!!!
