Any Decent Alternatives to Break Studios?

I want to earn some extra money by doing some freelance writing work. Break Studios looked promising until I read in their FAQ that they don't accept writers who live outside the US. I live in Australia, so that disqualifies little old me.

I've checked out Elance, Odesk, and a few other similar sites, but it seems to me that the people who advertise writing jobs on those sites want Shakespeare for two bucks per hour. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but they're probably harder to come by than a cross-eyed air traffic controller.

One job posted on Elance that seized my interest was for somebody to write a 40,000 - 45,000 romantic short story. I'm currently writing a romance novel, so I thought this job was just begging for me. That was until I saw how much they intended to pay for the completed work: less than $500. Paying somebody such a Dickensian sum for a fairly sizable and well-crafted short story is ridiculous. For that price they are going to get absolute crap and deserve to get absolute crap.

So what decent alternatives to Break Studios are there, if any?

Many thanks ahead of time for your suggestions, fellow warriors!

You can try here in the Warriors for Hire section. Be prepared to have some good samples of work. You can also try iwriter.

    Good luck.

Yeah you can find a lot of people on here that need content. Content is king, and every website needs it. In fact I have about 30 domains in need of writing right now, so if you are looking for a cooperative partnership of profit sharing then contact me to discuss an arrangement that meets your approval.

You can also try DP. WF. WHT.. other communities like this... fiverr and other gig sites.

Apply at Demand Media Studios, the average title right now pays $25 (their site says only US, UK and Canada writers, but I also know some of their rules are a bit outdated. Contact them.)
