I would like to start by thanking everyone in the Warrior Forum Community. I am new to the IM world and this Forum has been the most valuable tool I have found yet. Thank you all for your willingness to share your knowledge.

How can I go about building an email list while starting from scratch?

Thanks

Set up a autoresponder series of targeted reports.

A very easy way to get started with list-building is to join JV giveaways. The principle behind these events is that you join as a contributor and contribute a product that is either yours or that you have rights to give away. When the event goes live to members, they join and browse through the gifts. Gifts rank by the points that contributors get by referring more members/contributors.

Some people will say that lists you build from giveaways are freebie seekers, but I say that it's all in how well your list likes you. Some people preach graduating your list to buy higher ticket items or shoving your list down a funnel as if they were but numbers instead of real people.

Back to the point: giveaways can get you 100 or more subscribers per event if you join the right ones, contribute a desirable gift, etc. This all takes very little work too

    Good luck,
    Curtis

The best way to start building a list is with twitter it is a huge marketplace and just by posting your optin link with a free report once a day it is very easy to have a 1,000 list in a fortnight whatever you do dont buy lists and stay away from giveaways as even though you will get numbers on your list they will either unsubscribe or wont be responsive and the key is making money from your list.

By contributing on here with your sign up in your sig it will make a real difference.

With all due respect, you probably didn't establish a proper relationship with them. No targeted subscriber will unsubscribe from your list if they like you and/or your content.

Thanks to you all....Great responses as always..

I definitely want to build a relationship with my list, I want them to want what I am offering and to know that it would be helpful quality information. I am concentrating on a few niches, mainly based on my own interests, so that I will KNOW what I am talking about and offering. That's why I like the Twitter and social network idea, because that would build the list to the topic at hand.

ObsidianKnight, Thank you for the info......You were right, I needed it.

I am checking out the other things suggested and so far and I like all of them.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the Auto-responder choices?

Ross, Thanks for the link, I will be going back to that site tonight for further info.

Looks like I have some homework to do......Thanks again

For me while there's many autoresponders both hosted and self hosting scripts I'd suggest aweber or getresponse (particularly when starting out). Both offer great delivery rates and are pretty cheap $17.95 and $19.95 respectfully.

Thanks Rich. I had seen these two tags at the beginning of many an email sent to me lately. I will check them out.

Make sure you pick a reliable auto responder service that is easy to navigate.

Also, build a solid relationship with your list. Don't only bombard them offers...actually try to connect with them on a personal level because people will spend money with people that they like.

    Hope this helps

    Omar!

    aapillc,

Let me do you a favor and explain what it is I know your thinking, because I have been there before too.

In order to "start list building" you need to know a few key factors.

    - Autoresponder - software that allows you to capture names
    - squeeze page - some page that does the name capture (uses name and email fields from your Autoresponder program)
    - sales page - the page that does the sales work for your product or affiliate program.

In general, you setup your sales page, then create a list in your autoresponder program. Your list will have a name, some e-mail address for your notifications, and some general fields. Just fill them out as you go. You will be asked for things like a "thank you page", but that can come later.

Next, in your autoresponder program, create the "webform", This is the part that will be added into your "squeeze" page. IT is just copy and paste in most cases.

Then you post your squeeze page to your site area.

Then, test it all to make sure it works. Once it works, you start driving traffic to your sales or squeeze page depending on either your product, or how you setup your "site flow".

Traditional flow (generally goes like this):

Traffic -> Squeeze -> signup -> send follow up emails -> more sales
Traffic -> Sales page -> sale ->signup -> download page -> send follow ups -> more sales

The key factor is to get the signup. Once you have the signup you can promote to the "list" at later dates. The first option works best with free offers, where they signup to get your offer, and the second option works well if they are existing subscribers and you want to "move them to a new list".
