What is the Future of Internet Marketing?

In the grand scheme of things, internet and affiliate marketing is still a young industry. Will internet/affiliate marketing still be accessible to independent marketers in the future, say 10 years for now, as it is today. Just think of how large malls and shopping centers displaced many mom & pop stores in local cities.

  • Will large marketing conglomerates eventually displace independent marketers?
  • Will Google continuous algorithm updates make it nearly impossible for independent marketers with small budgets to get traction?
  • Will it get harder and harder to gain traction on Facebook and YouTube?

I think, because of the above possibilities, it will be harder for newbies to get started and gain traction. But, those marketers who are seasoned, savvy and continuously serve their list will survive for as long as they want to. The key is to BUILD A LIST and treat it like gold and always keep a personal touch, which differentiates you from anyone else.

If you do a survey of the mom and pop stores that are still around, you will find that most of them are very specialized in what they do or they have a very loyal customer base because on personal relationships, location or because they provide highly personalized services.

A very interesting question! I would have to say that the changes in algorithm and general strategy in Internet marketing can be a plus and minus for the small IM. The reasons for this are that the market constantly changes, which means there are always new opportunities to get on the back of.

As long as your head is down and you're always looking for new ways to earn money online, then I think there'll always be a possibility. In essence it will work the same as off-line marketing, whereby the best marketing companies or IM's will gain the most clients and get the the highest earnings. All of this will hopefully weed out quite a lot of the bad eggs which are still working in this industry and giving a lot of us a bad name!

I know this doesn't really answer your question just thought I'd add a little personal note :-)

I agree. As long as your head is down and you're always looking for new ways to earn money online. But, my primary concern is will it get harder and harder to do. For example, today a newbie can grap a free wordpress blog, pay as little as 3.00/month for a hosting account, set-up for free as a clickbank affiliate and start writing and submitting articles and, if consistent, will eventually start getting traffic to his blog and making sales. Will that simplicity exist in the future?

I would say the mom and pop shops that survive really have a passion for their business and for the customers. I would think if you look to build an actual real business instead of just 'selling stuff' you'll always have a place.

Personally I hope we see the day where it flips back to a dominance of mom and pop shops both online and offline again.

I think the future of shopping malls is going to become a ghost mall in some areas. This is starting already. Every mall I walk into has empty stores as more people are buying online.

Online selling is really growing. Whether you are selling information products or physical products you will find that online selling is growing.

So true. More and more people are starting to realize that you are able to find better deals and find stuff more fast and effectively online. It's just much more convenient to be able to shop while at home relaxing.

This blows my mind. Here in Northeast Ohio USA the local malls are jam packed with consumers and stores. They've built three huge malls in the last five years, all of which are doing amazing.

It will be bigger and bigger. This economic turmoil makes people watch for alternative ways to make money.. the Internet obviously the quickest entity to give a solution.

    It's already happening.
Many here have seen the light and moved into solo ads (which is a slow death) or coaching.

I may be wrong, but I believe that Apps seem like a great tactic to use in the future for marketing because everyone is getting apps for their smart phone and tablet.

First off, don't rely on Google and search engines.

There will always be large "authority" sites who will take your money for advertising.

All you need to be able to do is - put up ads that target your customers, send them to an offer of yours, convert those eyes into buys.

indeed, but w that increase in size will come more opportunity for those that can adapt

as i see it, im in general is ever-moving toward transparency and branding. people are continuing to become more savvy and understanding of how/when/where to purchase online. i think security (in the financial sense) in the future will continue to come as a result of being a legit and truly knowledgeable authority in a given market

It's really hard to predict what will really happen but one thing for sure is that IM is evolving rapidly. Mobile marketing which is relatively new has come in the last few years and change the playing field altogether.

It's already harder now! You cannot write plain 300-words articles and expect to drive quality traffic to your blog these days.

Affiliate is not an online model per se. Affiliate marketing is a business model. And thus, it can never go away. But...

The Internet is perpetually in a state of flux. It is a form of media that is constantly changing and advancing, which can often make it difficult for Internet marketing companies to predict the future.

Google's survey has given Internet marketers a good idea of what to expect from Web users and mobile technology moving forward. The results are very important for SEOs and the entire online marketing industry to understand as they irrefutably prove that the mobile marketplace is not only here to stay, but helping in the overall global expansion of the Internet.

There is really a big future in INTERNET MARKETING. People follow what other people are doing, we incline towards things that others are interested in, and TECHNOLOGY has a big part in it. In just once click, wherever they are and no matter what they are doing, they can be able to check out what you are offering; either products or services. SO YES! THERE IS REALLY A FUTURE IN INTERNET MARKETING.
