What do you call that thing where you login to an interface and end up in another desktop computer?

No, not the sharing screen applications.

I'm talking about this thing you buy from some site and you login to that and you have a virtual desktop. It acts just like a regular desktop computer except you are controling it from you...ummm desktop computer.

Remote desktop is built-in Windows XP & greater.

    EDIT:

    I missed the browser part.

Here are two free GoToMyPC Alternatives:

Hmm, it's definitely not GoToMyPC because I am accessing a PC that is not my PC or not even a PC.

It's also definitely not TeamViewer because there is a real PC being accessed.

I remember logging in 4 years ago to one of these virtual computer and I couldn't understand why its already "used" but as I watch the desktop, I recognize some of the files, pictures I have on there. I then remembered that I've logged in to a 'desktop' that I used 2 years PREVIOUSLY when I was dating a girl and cheating on her. I had to keep some files away from our 'real' computer. I would still be able to login to this virtual computer and have the pleasure of editing pictures, emailing, chatting, to this other woman. That virtual 'computer' is not anywhere, there was no real PC computer I am accessing except a service by a company that I now forgot. All I know is that the IT in the office back then set this up in my laptop. Now I need the exact same solution.

LMFAO WUT????? my trolldar is picking up some frequencies. even if so, thanks for lols. everything you are stating is pointing to a virtual machine solution. it installs a "virtual" operating system on your pc. it's how mac users can run windows 7 and what not. it does everything you stated. but again thanks for the lols and tmi.

Hmm, I'm glad you are entertained and I probably would to but I'm actually using the exact same solution. All I remember doing back then was accessing this using a username and password on the web. I could access this virtual computer even from a library computer, at the airport, work computer and of course, at home.

It doesn't necessarily have to be vmware.

It seems that what you are referring to is that you are accessing some sort of server, a PC, or indeed a VMware instance running somewhere in some data center or other remote location that you are able to access over the internet via a remote desktop type application running through a browser. Very possible.

Many years ago in the early 90's I remember there was a virtual desktop service that allowed you to log in to what is now commonly termed as VMWare, basically it was an early form of virtual cloud server with open source applications installed by default. Back in the early days it was revolutionary, now it's commonplace.

However back then this was my mobile phone too lol, and now I have an iPhone

I googled "virtual desktop" and you'll find a few providers, such as Hosted Desktop in the Cloud - UK based 24x7 | Secure Virtual Desktop Hosting and Hosted Virtual Desktops | Hosted Desktop | Virtual Desktop

Now that there is much more stored "in the cloud" I would think many of the cloud providers would provide something similar to what you want.
