The misuse of the term Joint Venture

It seems a lot of people misuse the words Joint Venture these days. If someone approaches me and asks if I would be interested in a JV then I would naturally assume they want to work with me on a project and not as is often the case just mail out to my subscriber base. What they really want is affiliates.

Joint venture: To work with one or more people on a project together.

Affiliates: People who promote other people's products.

I agree with you on this. I have been approached for JV just to find out the same - mail to my list and promote their product.

With the hype of solo ads, the term JV is being misused more often.

I find it odd as well, but language changes all the time. If it didn't, we'd still be speaking like Chaucer.

Unless you're an English teacher, it's easier just to go with the flow, at least in these kind of scenarios.

And by the way, it's "simple", not "simples", despite the example of certain small furry quadrapeds.

There may be some "marketing" in using the term JV.

If I ask for affiliates it seems that I want someone to help me. It implies that I am getting the main benefits.

However if I am looking for JV's then that is a much better offer to others as it implies a sharing of the benefits.

I don't think it's unrealistic, in an industries that is based on convincing people top do something (opt-in/buy/sign-up/pay up etc) to expect some of those same marketing techniques to be used when looking for help or partners.

I believe the term joint venture is like a roof, it covers everything. There are so many different forms of joint ventures and being an affiliate is one of those forms. After all an affiliate is working with you on a project by doing all the advertising and sending traffic to your sales letter.

In exchange for their efforts they receive a percentage of the sale.

As for a joint venture, you may partner up with someone who has a big list and in exchange for the advertising your jv partner will do, instead of paymentr for the sales they bring in, they receive a portion of every sale.

The only difference is the terms decided upon in terms of payment.

I've done many joint ventures where I only give the jv partner the same list that I biuld with the project and none of the profits. So a Joint venture can be what ever you can negotiate.

I hope this has been helpful,

ya Same here. I got a man who asked can I be his JV partner?

I said I'am already working with three others on my new project And Don't have anytime to look after another project.

And I was Surprised to see him say that "We are giving 90% commissions on our products so you just have to solo it to your list, It wont take much time".

I mean what the heck, I said I'am not an affiliate and he said We will have a partnershil and I'll only have to promote the product.

AT any point . It was sure that he wanted to make me his affiliate.

JV term is totally misusing nowadays.
