I've always been a bit nose in the air about fiverr, a case of you get what you pay for etc so not been on there for ages.

I just happened to be having a poke round last week and saw this guy who did awesome whiteboard vids so thought for the sake of 5 bux I'd give it a whirl.

Truly blown away by what he came up with

Looks like its worthwhile on there after all

    Hey Kim!

I have the same sort of feelings towards Fiverr. Some of the stuff on there is OK but there's a lot of junk too!

Can I ask, post the link here? I was interested in hiring someone for whiteboard vids the other day.

    Thanks

Yes, some of them are really good, I hire a handsome guy to make a video for me and he didi a pretty descend job. You may find the best video maker in fiverr if you willing to search hard enough. I did two gig a week for my business, and I never had bad experience once because I stick to the same person every time.

Yes, you have to pick and choose, there.

It certainly can be worthwhile. I've had about 25 gigs and been very happy about 22/23 times, which you can't complain about. I've bought mostly "silly"/"other" things there, but some excellent cartoons, etc. (I stay well away from any SEO gigs!).

I thought those whiteboard things were really expensive? A great find for $5?!

I find fiverr a bit hit and miss but I have had some good artwork done from there. I guess its about building a library of gigs that you can reuse with confidence.

I'd be interested in the link for the whiteboard video link too

Funny cos I just went back to the well 2 weeks ago. Ordered 2 book cover concepts from 2 separate sellers.

So each order was for $10, but a small price to pay for what would have been initial concepts.

The results was one seller did everything great and made any changes etc as requested.

The other seller lodged the work as complete, but did not attach and files. After 3 requests, still no replies or files. So I put it into dispute which in hindsight is a mistake because it stops me from leaving a poor review (deserved) and after 3 weeks, no refund.

Both sellers were highly rated. so unless the 2nd seller was hit by a bus, I am still a bit miffed.

I use Fiverr all the time for certain things and I'm usually happy.

Some of the creative gigs on there are incredible for $5, I often use it for cheap birthday gifts for friends. Have had a super hero loving friend turned into their own super hero, a happy birthday speed drawing card done, a puppet show for another. They all said it was the best gifts they ever received.

I've used Fiverr for quite a few things, including whiteboard videos.

It takes a while to read the feedback (or at least skim it) but that can help weed out some lower value offers.

Plus a sceptical mind helps on some of the too-good-to-be-true gigs

I think it looks like crap. It's full of mistakes and sloppiness. But if you're happy, more power to you. However, there's no reason to disparage professionals who are trying to put food on the table, just like you are.

Disparaging? Really?? Had to go back and read through the thread again, and I fail to see where anyone was 'disparaging' other 'professionals.' I think the OP was just saying that for $5, she got a really good deal and since it's temporary, she IS happy with it.

          Did you feel disparaged?

Don't think there was any need for you to be so unpleasant Gail, I wasn't disparaging anyone. I made the point that I got a very good deal for a couple of dollars. I've just paid a thousand dollars to have an animated video done for my EMP site which is hopefully going up soon and is obviously my main bread and butter site.

Some folks can only afford $5 or in that area to get something half decent up there, it's nice to share resources when you can and to give good feedback.

I was curious to see what could be done for $5, as I said in my first post, I've not really thought much about fiverr in the past, I was acknowledging that I was wrong and there are obviously some good gigs to be had on there.

Yes I noticed a couple of grammatical errors, but for the price and considering the video is only going to be up for a few weeks I decided to leave it.

To be honest I only saw one, but was hedging my bets in case I missed any more

I probably hit a nerve somewhere, but the really daft thing is I don't begrudge anyone charging $300 or more if they can get it, and to be fair I would imagine the quality would be much improved.

For my $1000 vid I'm expecting it to walk on water!!!

Finding a cheaper alternative to an otherwise expensive project isn't disparaging professionals. The Sparkol videos are what they are. They use clipart and are all automated. For $5, it's a good deal. For whatever Sparkol charges, it's also a good deal.

Does it replace a professional whiteboard presentation? Not by a long shot. There are people who don't need a professional whiteboard presentation or who can't afford one. That's certainly their choice to make and how that disparages professionals is beyond me.

Pretty cool. I noticed one of the fonts he used is pretty popular. I actually downloaded it about a week ago and was going to use it for a minor project. Then I checked the license and found it's free to use for personal stuff but for commercial use there's a licensing fee. Wonder if this guy has a license for it.

I would ask the guy where he got the music. Sparkol's license doesn't allow the use of included music to be given to clients. Included images in Video Scribe are OK to give to clients, as long as they are not imported. But, I don't recognize the images in the video.

It's possible both the music and some images violate copyright laws. You should Sparkol's license and ask the creator just to be sure.

Because of these issues, I prefer using Sparkol's Video Scribe myself.

Not sure why some charge so much. Like $300 - 500. That one was done with Sparkol (I think). About $25 per month. I've been messing with it.

If you look hard enough on Fiverr you can find some really good gigs.

Before the Penguin update, I was using about 5 or 6 SEO gigs and getting good results.

Now, there are only 2 gigs on Fiverr that I use for SEO that get positive results.

There are also a lot of high quality voice over gigs, video review gigs, and video distribution gigs.

There is a virtual assistant gig on there that I use frequently and the guy is a BEAST with how much he gets done for me for only 5 bucks.

There are even 2 or 3 good article writers on there as well.

Look for gigs with REPEAT buyers (not just gigs that have lots of happy 1 time buyers who never come back to buy the gig a 2nd time - if they don´t come back to buy more of the same gig, that tells you something, even if they left positive feedback the 1 time they bought it) that is the key to finding gems on Fiverr.

Do you all think using Fiverr to get some likes on Facebook or views on Youtube is a good idea? Seems like you all wouldn't use them for SEO but I've been looking on a few and they had some I was interested in. There are some where they essentially just post a link to your site/channel on their facebook page that has a ton of friends. I'm not expecting night and day results from a fiverr gig but just wondering what you all suggest. Worth the time? It's just $5 so I'd like to try some stuff out.

If you want to inflate numbers to look popular then go for it. If you want an actual Fan Page with interactive members then don't. These are fake profiles that are there just to boost numbers. If you are OK with that then no problems. Be aware that sometimes Facebook will ban these fake accounts and you will loose likes. Also, YouTube has been banning accounts with fake views for a while now. Just be cautious if you are putting on hard work on some videos. Do it the honest way and at the end of the day you have nothing to worry about.

I appreciate the advice. Honestly that's one thing I'd be worried about. I worry that I would do something like that and end up getting banned from these sites and lose all my hard work trying to artificially build up my viewership.

Guess it'll make it that much more enjoyable when I see my views/subscribers go up due to my own hard work.

Actually I wouldn't. Ask yourself if it is worth the risk. It would be easier to just optimize your video, build a few links to it and blast it to your social connections.

I agree with a lot of what others have said, you really need to weed through to get anything of value. I've bought a few gigs with some success but others where I regretted my decision. Alexa was absolutely right in saying that you should stay away from ALL SEO gigs. They truly are junk and not worth the spit from your mouth! Glad to hear you've had success! It's all to do with the location of the providers you are dealing with.

If you look at a place like the Philippines for example, they say an engineer would earn an average of 683 USD per month. That drops to 550 USD after compulsory deductions... and that's an engineer.

So that ends up being just over 18 USD per day. So when you look at it that way, for someone in these third world countries to spend a few hours creating a video for you for $4, it's not actually bad work for them.

One of the great things about the Internet. Connecting the first world with the third world.

    Yep!

It's hit or miss on Fiverr. Several weeks ago, I went through two Sellers to complete a gig and both of them missed!

I just hate it when a Seller jumps at a gig knowing they can't do the work. I posted this gig request with specific details on what I needed done. Got two different Sellers from India who didn't know squat. The first Seller had high ratings. The second Seller was only on the scene about a month but claimed to have first-hand knowledge working with my specific theme.

Both creeps left me hanging for days while they shuffled, hymned and hawed! Almost two weeks of my time and energy wasted.

Kim, it looks like you struck gold with this Seller! Great job with that animated videoscribe! Thanks for sharing.

Sparkol's VideoScribe is fantastic. A warrior introduced it to me on a thread here recently and I have made three videos that have been published now and are being used on my various sites... (attached below).

Rather than spending even $5 regularly getting videos made up, it may be worth the investment in VideoScribe so that you can make them for whatever you wish and have full control.

It's REALLY easy to use and a fairly powerful bit of software. Each of these videos took me all of about 3-4 hours to create and the more I use it the quicker they are to produce.

I use Fiverr quite often for doing simple tasks that are too time demanding and I have had both good and bad experiences. It just means once you find someone who does effective work, keep using them. Tip - use the sort by rating feature to find the top rated gigs
