Will You Ever Buy Anything from A Website in FREE Platform?

Hi

Will you ever buy any product or service like web design, graphic design, SEO, social media services if a person has made a website on free platform like wordpress.com?

Provided, that the free blog looks nice with nice updates, portfolios, articles, trust factor etc etc.

Or do you think people will buy from such a website or they will move away w/out buying anything?

You wont buy even if it has proper email, skype, contact number too?

Thank you

Looks very unprofessional. I would personally never buy from a free site because it's very likely to be a scam. The only exception is if I knew the developer directly. Otherwise, no.

You mean like, if their domain name ends with .wordpress.com or even worse...

    .blogspot.com?

Instant credibility loss. If you search long enough (like, a couple of minutes), you can pick up a domain for less than a dollar.

You're not allowed to sell anything on wordpress.com (that breaches their terms of service, and such a blog would be deleted as soon as a staff member notices it).

No, I've never bought anything from a site I know is a free one. It has no credibility at all.

However, you can get free hosting easily enough that "doesn't show" (e.g. if you host at Byethost nobody can tell whether you're on a free server or a paid one - they have plenty of paid hosting customers, too).

    As mentioned here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7912868

You take my point, perhaps? There's "free hosting" (that just looks like a normal website) and then again there's "free hosting" (that looks ludicrous, like the sites you see with an "Earn $300 per day" squeeze page which says at the bottom "Get your own free site at Weebly/Yola/Blinkweb" or whatever. That's completely unprofessional and silly - both the free hosting button and the income claim!).

    Not a chance.

If you're using a free platform you're obviously not making any money. You also don't have the added functionality of a self-hosted website, so that tells me you're either not very savvy yourself or don't take your business seriously.

So I wouldn't even consider purchasing anything you have to offer.

If you browse Google there are coupon codes for hosting and domains. I can build a site for less than $10. If someone is trying to sell you a product/service from a free site, especially in the MMO/IM niche, whats that tell you? To me they have no credibility or money, and don't expect to be around long.

Interesting question, however, I think the answer is 'exclusive' to other marketer's, as I highly suspect most internet users are completely clueless of credibility issues regarding site ownership -vs- free web properties.

Actually, I have made affiliate sales from a HubPage, Squidoo Lens, and from Blogger... be it they were far and few between... it can be done, and HAS happened.

Finally, I rarely buy products online (ironic I know...lol) however, in the right light, I might if the person had something genuine to offer on their free site... or their ability to sell me through quality content was evident.

*In most cases, I wouldn't because I know how hard 'we' work, and feel a serious IMer or business would own their own site, and it does give both reassurance and credibility that they are genuine and 'invested'.

PS - I still use free platforms on occasion to point to my domains, and they are better for that I believe than making direct sales from.

I gotta agree with this. When it comes to internet marketing field, you lose credibility when you its something obviously free. That being said, I have helped a couple guys that sell tangible products (coffee for example) that are on free weebly sites. You can only really tell if you scroll to the bottom but in that case there, people are more forgiving. Then again if you showed up at his shop and he was using Mr. Coffee coffee maker, he would lose instant credibility right?

I wonder if anyone would buy something from Seth Godin's blog.

Why not? (That isn't a free one, anyway, if you mean his TypePad blog? That's actually one of the more expensive ways to host a blog).

Even the ones with .typepad.com at the end?

Yes. (Ah, now I see what you mean: you'd guessed that it's hosted free because it's on a TypePad subdomain? Noooooo, doesn't work that way. TypePad isn't free, and it isn't cheap either. It is, however, very good. ).

I would buy it as long as really good quality website and service. Doesn't always need to be perfect as long as I can fix it and is fixable.

I tried doing logo designs on a free site but got exactly zero enquiries despite doing facebook ads etc.. I don't think they work unless you have the ability to quickly develop a rather 'indie' following..

No definitely not. I can imagine that if you can't even afford to buy your own domain and hosting which can be got for less than $20 that you're going to be very professional or serious about the services you're offering. It's a big, red, flag.

I'm not familiar with Typepad but are you saying that people pay money to have websites that have domains ending in .typepad?

I might, but I would have to be convinced that what was being sold was something I wanted. If it was an information product or something of that nature I would be extremely skeptical.
