try the google analytics plugin. Gives visitors and much more, keyword entry etc. Must have a google analytics account though.

I use statcounter.com. There is a Wordpress plug-in that you have to upload to make them work together. I think it's called something like official statcounter plugin.

    Hi,

There are a number of ways you can get stats on your visitors.

What many people use is a plugin available from wordpress.org

I'd post a link, but I don't have enough posts yet...

    so, go to wordpress.org

and add the following to the url: extend/plugins/stats/

You'll need a WP API key, just like you do for Akismet -- but they are free and easy to come by ... just create an account on the wordpress.org site.

After that -- then you can use any stats package that your hosting company provides, like awstats, webalyzer, etc.

Finally, then you can go after installing stats packages like google-analytics and statcounter. (Both free, though have upgrade versions.)

    Cheers!

I think I already downloaded the plug in StatPress....should it then tell you automatically who has visited your site?

I use statpress and google analytics. statpress is sort of my daily 'dashboard', whereas i use google analytics for real anaylsis

what exactly do you mean by "should it then tell you automatically who has visited your site?" You could just install it, and take a look at what it gives you

I suggest using Google Analytics because if you want to start using AdWords in the future to sell a product, Google can do all kinds of conversion tracking and ROI tracking - it's really powerful!

Of course, there are WP plug-ins to help make it easier to set it all up. You can start by going to "http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/"

Wordpress has a plugin for that purpose or your web hosting should also provide that info for you. I know that c-panel hosting has that. Just check your awstats for detailed info.

    Hope this helps

you need to get two plugins. Do a search for Analyticator Plugin and Wordpress reports plugin. You need to have a google analytic account. config the two plugins. Once configured, you will see "Reports" tab in your dashboard and it will give you pretty accurate stats. Good luck

Your webhost will likely have AWStats available in your CPanel.

Your webhost will likely have a Recent Visitors report in your CPanel.

StatPress plug in will give you data inside WP.

Google Analytics (with the Analyticator plug-in) with give you Google's analytics.

And there's other, more detailed ways to track users and their behavior on your website... User session recordings, live monitoring, and more...

    Best,

    Brian

I uploaded the wordpress plugin the other day with statcounter and it works brilliantly. I would recommend it to anyone. Dont use the built in stats with wordpress as it is unreliable i changed over after it said that i had received 5 visitors in 5 days when i had received 50 signups a day via my popup a day!!!
