Side-IM Business to Support my Side-eCommerce Store?

Hi All.

So, I have an ecommerce store that I've spent money on. At this point I've learned, as a n00b IM'er and newbie in business that my website totally sucks. I want to switch over from Magento to either OpenCart or Prestashop. A company I talked to, here from Warrior Forum actually, quoted me at $1100 for either one. Being that I only have about $500 in my business account right now (and making no online sales), I'm in a bind. I can't afford to take money out of my personal account (from my main part-time job) because I don't have much...plus I'm trying to save up for a car, new glasses, etc. lol

Because of that, I've decided that it would be best to just try to generate some cash doing some form of internet marketing in order to help my website out (and save up for those expenses). I was wondering if anyone could suggest any good methods, WSOs or strategies I could take advantage of for this. I know that affiliate marketing is really popular, but I know nothing about how to get something like that started. Passive income would be nice...

Being a complete newbie and feeling totally clueless (I've searched the forums for good stuff...but can't distinguish the good from the bad), I felt that it would be best to ask people who know what's going on and are successful.

Many thanks!

  • With all the work you've done with your ecommerce site. I think trying to learn a whole new method will just be a distraction. If I were you, I would take what I've learned from running an ecommerce site, analyze it, see what went wrong, make necessary changes and test them.

Like Thomas Edison, when inventing the light bulb, you may not know what works yet, but you know what doesn't work and that's one step closer to success.

Thanks Traveler. I agree that it would be a distraction, but the very problem with making "necessary changes" to the site is as I stated before...cash flow. I have none. That is limiting me from improving my site. I'm currently running on Magento v. 1.3 (which is old) and I was told by my wholesaler's web development team that upgrading would kill all of the customizations that put into it. That, and my site is really slow...

And since I can't take money out of my personal account to fund it, I really have little options. I plan to build/create content (it's been a while), but I don't expect the site (in its current form) to convert...a few people have told me that it looks ugly and untrustworthy. lol

Why do you want to switch from Magento? Why can't you make sales with Magento now until you have enough to then go over? I would focus on the one thing and do it really well, doing a "side-IM business" isn't a solution. Feel free to PM me
