What's your visitor value?

Hey guys

Keeping tabs on your visitor value is, as I mentioned in another thread yesterday, surely one of the most effective ways of

- removing the (business killing!) guesswork from your marketing activities
- checking the effectiveness of your site's conversion ability
- monitoring the split-testing of elements on your site
- making sure you're not selling a product to a declining market

...and any number of other useful metrics.

Visitor value is

(Sale revenue - direct cost of sales) divided by unique visitors

So what's yours? Take the poll!

I ask this not because I want to know anyone's particular visitor value, but it would be interesting for all of use to know where our visitor value number is in the grand scheme of things. In the past, it has been said that a visitor value of $0.50 or more is pretty good. Personally, I always strive for at least $1.00 and I have always found that quite easy to achieve.

When we know where we our VV is in the bigger picture, we can better gauge how much scope our own sites have for improvement in the markets we're in. There is an element of diminishing return for sites so at some point you've got to decide if you can make more money by starting an additional venture rather than trying to squeeze more out of the one you have. Visitor value helps inform that decision-making process.

I hope you participate and find the results useful.

Cheers,

Neil
