Question about Word Press, or Word Press plug in

Hey guys I need some help.
I got this potential client, we only spoke by phone, we are meeting at my office on Wednesday and I wanted to know if what he needs can be done on word press.
The guy owns 5 retail stores (real store locations) with different inventory on each store.
Each store has a a website with different URL.
Is it possible to combine all stores together and to manage all their inventory from one CMS?
Will word press allow that. 5 URLs pointing to the same shopping cart?
I know I don't give much information (I don't have all the information yet), so I am only expecting a general answer, or maybe a link to a plug in and I can read further.
I know how to create a custom site that will do this all, but will be expensive. If Word press can do some of it, I would like to know. Any information, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    I would not use wordpress for this. I would use a dedicated shopping cart that has multistore functionality. Wordpress in this case is the square peg in the round hole. (yes I love wordpress but not for ecommerce stores).

    You have two routes, opensource and hosted ecommerce.
    If you go the opensource route, take a look at OpenCart or Prestashop. You can also check out Magento but I wouldn't do it unless he has a budget for a strong dedicated server.

    If you go the hosted route, Americommerce allows you to run multistores from the same back end. This is my preferred route since you will never have to worry about patches, server downtimes and upgrades. What is great is each additional store is only $39 a month.

    I prefer the hosted route unless the carts need to do something very very special. Your life will be a whole lot easier from a maintenance perspective, plus they are PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant, give you access to Content Delivery Networks and have a shared SSL you can use if you prefer.

    Again, wordpress is great but I would strongly advise against using it here. A dedicated shopping cart is the way to go unless you want to give yourself a bad name in the market. (I have cleaned up several ecommerce sites that started on CMS's and should have been on shopping carts. Those developers are hated by local business and they do talk to each other...)

    I would definitely agree with OnlineStoreHelp.
    I personally love WordPress and it is my strength.
    We actually used WordPress with shopping carts but having a multi-store I think an eCommerce platform like PrestaShop, Volusion, Shopify , Magento, etc. would be a great tool.

    If you are planing to optimization point of view than I know WP is working great now a days but eCommerce sites should with multi carts no if I were you I out source this project with someone but not going with WP.

    I'd recommend using Magento. I was responsible for helping a business owner run several eCommerce stores under 1 platform. Although Magento can be a bit of a headache, it works wonders for this type of multi-store CMS. You should also consider secure hosting if you haven't done so already.
