I don't think it could be a malware already if it is a new site. In my opinion is that you may have installed a security plugin may have settings with restrictions which may include the password length. If so you will have to log into your hosting panel and remove the plugin that may have been causing the issue.
All in all if you cant log in via wordpress you will have to visit the hosting panel and work from there.

I think You can reset password from cpanel (hosting panel) using PHPMYadmin

Your question is a bit confusing. You start by saying you've installed WP. But then your bit about passwords appears to imply that the wizard won't let you install WP.

Could you clarify which it is and which "wizard" you are using.

Thanks for responding. My host is ixwebhosting and I have been using it for some 12 years. I installed wordpress using the Easy Apps Collection. I then engaged the link for Word press and it asks for the normal things to be filled in. That's where the problem starts. It asks for the domain, then path with /worpress already inserted. Next User Name has admin already inserted. The next asks for a password and then confirm password. Finally email address and tick for agree to terms. That's it.

Once I put in the password and repeated it the thing constantly returns with error message and I can't get past that point. Have spent some time with my host's Support but nothing eventuated. The next best thing is to post the problem in here.

Please try with manual wordpress configuration by deleting existing one. There are many tutorials online of "How to install wordpress Manually" If you dont know

this will solve your issue

Hi Norma,

It seems to be issue specific to your host's wp installer which you mentioned called EASY APPS collection.

As we have not seen this issue with any other WP install, manual install, Fintastico install, or Hostgator;s Quick Install... It seems their app is not working...

Can you ask them to install a simple WP for you using their app? It will be a minute task for them if its working... Then you can change user/pass once you are logged into the wp when they have successfully installed it.

Other option is to install WP manually. If you need help with Manual install let me know if we can assist.

I suspect you are installing WP on the wrong directory or a directory that has already been used by another copy of Wordpress for a different domain or sub-domain.

The usual install steps are:

1. Create a new add on domain or sub-domain from cpanel (take note of the directory this step creates)
2. Install Wordpress on that directory created from step 1.

Thanks for your response but these are domains that have never had WP installed on them. I think it is an issue with the Easy Apps installation and I will get back to the support team and see what can be done.

One way to fix it would be to go to the file manager from your cPanel and edit the wp-config.php file in the wordpress directory.

Somewhere down around line 61 (61 in the install on my site it could be a few lines up or down from that on yours) should be the following entry:

$table_prefix = 'wp_';

change that to

$table_prefix = 'ab_';

or any two letters of your choosing.

Then open http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php and follow the directions.

If your site is not installed in the root of the domain, you need to point your browser at the wp-admin/install.php file.

This should have you set up in about 5 minutes or less.
