Can I Get Your Opinion On An Ebook Cover Please

I have graphics made up for my site which I'm not 100% happy with. I've been playing around a bit but would love to get other opinions on these.

Graphic #1

Graphic #2

What one do you prefer? Which one do you think would be more appealing to potential buyers?

Or if you don't like either then some suggestions would be good

Thanks
Sheryl

    Hi Sheryl:

Hope all is well. Good luck on the project.

On the first choice (blue cover) the print under Site Biz needs to be larger (clearer).

On the 2nd the text on the spine is something you may want to reverse. (See image 1 spine).

Can I have a look please if you decide to make the changes?

Great effort. It takes some time to get all the logistics. You are doing well.

Send me a Private Email if you wish.

    Have a great Thursday.

      Agreed on those points.

      I prefer the blue cover.

Also there are other fonts I would use, but that is probably just personal style and taste.

      Good Luck!

        Font type is extremely important.

I read about this recently in that every little detail should be considered when designing.

It is interesting that you say that it is probably "just personal style and taste".

This means that conciously you have considered the text and don't consider it good.

Design is about getting all these details perfect and this impacts on people's subconsciousness.

Graphic #1 is better by a long shot.

Blue is the best sales color you can use.

    Blue, Red and Yellow.

The fonts could do with some work - maybe use a simple font like Arial.

Oh wow, number 1 is the cover I had created for my by a graphic designer, I don't have the psd files for it so I can't make any changes to it.

Maybe I'll go back to the drawing board and see what I can come up with in blue colors. I chose black for the second one mainly because I liked the graphic of the computer with the www - that had the black background so I just blended it in.

Definitely the lighter colored ones. Also, I'd suggest using a different shape for your eBook. I think that shape looks too cartoonish and loses a little credibility, although I do see quite a few people using those shaped eBooks.

First one won't work, too much conflicting colors.

Hi Sheryl, I think both can be used with some color changes, maybe on the blue, get rid of the striped effect ( yellow/red ) and put a darker blue contrasting bar in it's place, maybe even change the Main Text Color? On #2, I can see what effect your trying to get with the metallic look but it may pop more using a deep red instead of black. And, a
a small note: I used to set up a lot of artwork ideas for customers using unusual fonts and almost always they'd choose the simple block fonts, Arial, etc...

Maybe, the best thing, is to go get some coffee or, water, get away for 10 or 15, and go with what you feel looks best or, make the changes you think best. Hope this helps

    Sheryl,

    You said..

"What one do you prefer? Which one do you think would be more appealing to potential buyers?

#2. It's the only one that shows me a benefit/ "what's in it for me."

    You said...

"Or if you don't like either then some suggestions would be good"

I wouldn't put my name on either one. First off, you might want to change the title:

    "Site Biz Academy"

On example #1. That's all you can really make out. You can see a sub headline there, but it's useless because the text is too small. So, you're left with a headline that fails to grab the prospect by their eye sockets and pull them in with benefits that matter to them.

I'd make your headline "The Ultimate Guide for Site-flippers". Why?

Because now, you're talking directly to your target market. Now you've got their attention

Then, I'd put "Site Biz Academy" (if that's the url of your website) at the bottom of the ecover, along with the person who wrote it. So the text on the ecover would now look something like this..

    The Ultimate Guide for
    Site-Flippers

    By Author Name
    [www.your-url.com]

You could even add a subheadline that says something like..

"How You Can __________ (benefit) and __________(benefit)"

    Just my thoughts.

I prefer the second one, but I really don't like the fonts used for "Site Biz Academy." Other than that, I think that it looks great. The graphics used on that cover look more professional. The first cover, in my opinion, looks amateurish while the second one, with different fonts, would look like the cover of a real book.

I strongly prefer the first one. The blue is much more positive and energizing than the black.

But...I do think I'd simplify the title font, and maybe make it smaller--it looks slightly out of balance with the graphic.

Good luck with your decision--there isn't too much of a consensus here!

You might have to take some of the comments that you prefer on board (do a bit of re-design) and then do the dreaded ..... testing.

I do prefer that one myself but I will take some suggestions on board and play around with it a bit more.

A couple of comments have given me a bit of an ego though - there were a couple of comments saying #2 looks more professional than #1 - not bad since #1 was created by a professional graphic designer and #2 was created by myself who has no graphic design experience

#2 definitely has more WOW factor. It doesn't look like it's falling in on you, and I love the light coming out of the computer with "WWW".

The first one is static, tired, and way too impersonal. And it looks like it's falling in on you.

Graphic 2 is the better design... but needs to have the text on the spine flipped and the laptop needs to not show up on the spine as well. You may want to decrease the size of the laptop image to accomplish this. Other than that, it looks really good. Graphic 1 just looks typical.

I like the second one better, but my recommendation would be to change the title. When I originally saw "Site Biz" I had no idea what it meant. Can you change it to something that says more about what the book is about:

    "Confessions of a Website Flipper"

    "The Site Flipper's Guide"

    "The Site Flipping Blackbook"

My pick: #2, good job. Tells me what I'm getting on both a text and visual level.
