A little curious about what all of you think in regards to Niche saturation.
Basically, every day I'm sure people learn about internet marketing, look for the hottest niches, learn about blogging/article distribution/backlinks, etc.

Now, isn't it logical that you would have exponential growth when it comes to highly popular niches like Forex, Weight Loss, Make Money from Home, etc?
Thus, how is it possible for newcomers to come in and ever grab market share while being so behind in site age, link popularity, etc?

Is the thought that eventually people stop updating their sites and then the new ones get to slowly crawl up the ranks? Curious as to what all of you think.

Thanks -
BH

In every niche there is a unique angle. That is what you have to explore. Take bass fishing as an example. Here is a quick Google keyword search that shows just the results between 2400 monthly searches and 1000 monthly searches (approx.):

    bass fishing boats
    bass fishing game
    bass fishing reports
    bass fishing tackle
    bass fishing techniques
    bass fishing video
    bass fishing videos
    big bass fishing
    black bass fishing
    fishing for bass
    fly fishing for bass
    free bass fishing games
    largemouth bass fishing
    mexico bass fishing
    peacock bass fishing
    sea bass fishing
    smallmouth bass fishing
    striped bass fishing

Think you can find a niche in there to cater to and work with?

Hell, I'll go one level more deep or more "niche". Same keyword...Google results between 720 and 480 approx. visitors per month:

    bass fishing bait
    bass fishing equipment
    bass fishing forum
    bass fishing gear
    bass fishing pictures
    bass fishing report
    bass fishing rigs
    bass fishing rod
    bass fishing tip
    bass fishing tournament
    bass fishing trips
    bass fishing wallpaper
    fall bass fishing
    fly fishing bass
    how to bass fish
    largemouth bass fishing tips
    trophy bass fishing
    white bass fishing
    winter bass fishing

And this is in a huge niche. Are you getting the idea? And for my sake what is "peacock bass fishing"?

    Heres my 2cents ...

last year as a total newb that couldnt make a dollar online I attended my first offline seminar. Whilst there I was sat talking with a Very rich successful internet marketer. Although funny thing is at the time I hadno idea who he was lol !

At the time he did tell me he 'Did ok' online mainly in the make money niche ( he did not say he makes $30,000 - $50,000 a month I now know he does )

1 of my questions to him was regarding this topic and what he thought of a new guy like me going into the makemoney niche....

    He laughed !!!

He told me to do it ! He stated there it is such a buyers market that literally anyone with a good product could break into it. He said the reason for the talk of niche saturation was the 'gurus' wanting more profits for themselves !

So I personally went for it ... Good move ! Things for me are going great.

So IMO niche saturation does not exist. If you have value to add to that market then why wouldnt you have success ?

    Best wishes

No such thing as saturation. Just aim at being the best in the niche and deliver more than everybody else. Be the biggest fish in the pond.

    Saturation is a myth...

Those that speak of it have trouble marketing.. they're not marketers, they're just trying to make money...

I've seen this type of thread come up in many shapes and
forms since I first joined here a few years back and the
answer is still the same as it was back then.

    There is plenty for everyone.

Sure, some niches will have more competition than others.

But all that means is that you will have to put out better
stuff than your competition to get your slice of the pie

Go get your slice of the pie that's waiting for you.

Even if a niche WAS saturated, which none of them are, all you need is a fresh product that brings new benefits to the market. People will always want more ways to make money, more ways to lose weight, more ways to have successful relationships, etc. There is always room for new technologies and methods.

If you are doing the same thing everyone does, and they started before you, I think it is safe to say your results will not be as good, though that doesn't mean you can't get results. If you can add value in some way, you may find your results are even better. You just need to look at the amount of time and investment that is needed to catch up to the people that started before you.

You can overcome the saturation of any niche by providing quality products or content and delivering them in new and unique ways. A niche can have five times as many marketers in it than it can support, but if your product/service is at or near the top because of quality and freshness, then the customers will come to you (if you've dont the nuts and bolts of traffic and list building, marketing, etc.).

Unimaginative or stagnant marketers will often complain of niche saturation, because their site/product doesn't stand out from or offer something different than the competition.

The truth as I see it: the bulk of the competition SUCKS at marketing.

Jason, you hit it right on the head. I am still learning (and will always be learning), but most of your competition in any niche really isn't that good. You just have to be better.

    I totally understand your concern.

The reality is that the reasons that niches are "hot" is because there is MONEY to
had in those niches. With regard to your concern about "grabbing market share" one idea is to "nichify your nich".
What I mean by that is to find a sub-niche of the broad niche.

"Weight loss for men" as opposed to "Weight loss" or maybe something like "Weight loss for women over 50". It's often easier to grab market share in a "sub-niche"

Also keep in mind that the reality is that most people who get into Internet Marketing really never do anything...so...if you're COMMITTED to doing things CONSISTENTLY then YES you can grab your fair share of the market.

Keep one more thing in mind.

Even though there are other people in that niche - those people are NOT YOU! You will have your own style of communicating information that will really gel with certain people. So you owe it to them and yourself to make things happen ;-)

Hello BH. Great Post to discuss so thank you for posting.

I also don't believe in niche saturation. You can break in any niche. The simple reason is your market is not only those who live in your street, town or even country. Your market is the GLOBE. There is a guy who is making online selling a product about how to train your pet mouse or cockroach Something like that.

Having said that, there are some niches that are harder to get into than others and may take you longer to break into it and make money but it's not impossible.

Competition is so healthy both online and offline and will benefit both the business and the consumer.

Finding the niche is only one issue, providing quality solution, building credibility and Marketing your niche on the net are other issues to consider as well.

Whatever it is that you choose, research it carefully, plan it correctly and take action to make it a success.

I wish you all the very best.

      Warmest Regards,
      Lama Kalla

That's right, you have something unique to offer to the niche, that no one else has. Use that, and it will help you provide your own positioning that will lead to success.

Go around and see what the competition is offering, and you're bound to find things things that they are not addressing, that they barely just miss: that's room for you.

Nah I don't think so. The internet is so big we can all get a piece of the pie.

But also remember, a lot of people quit in a couple of weeks or months. It's the people who stick it out that continue to make the money.
