Hi warriors, Actually I'm thinking of moving all my domains from GoDaddy to NameCheap. But before I do... One of the most important aspects of choosing a registrar, is ease of exit. Too many registrars lure you in with low prices, then make leaving all but impossible. Does anybody have any experience, good or bad, with transferring domains from NameCheap to other registrars? Thanks! |

I've only transferred one of my domains from Namecheap. Transfer was super smooth. Two years later, I transferred it back! By the way, I had a GIANT amount of trouble getting some domains out of the hands of GoDaddy a few years back. Paul |

In my experiences with Namecheap, they have always been top notch. I switched from GoDaddy to Namecheap a few years ago. Haven't transferred away from Namecheap though... |

Namecheap - helpful, flexible, professional and a number of other superlatives that I can't think of right now. One or two of their policies regarding bandwidth can be described as Stone Age but they do exactly what it says on the tin! You can pay monthly too and bail out if you're not happy. |

Yeah I like Namecheap too. Used to use Godaddy but only use Namecheap now, easy to transfer domains and easy to push.

I have been using namecheap for many years. Their services are good as some clients do transfer out from namecheap to others as well as others to namecheap. There is no problem with namecheap support and service. |

I think this settles it: I'll start to gradually move all my domains to NameCheap. So far my experience with them was very good, and as you guys said they don't lock the domains in and throw away the key - they'll get my vote. I will keep a domain of two on GoDaddy, though. This way I'll have a place to retreat for those times I get Upsell-and-Confusing-MMI Withdrawal Syndrome. |

I listened to a Mike Filsaime podcast once where he talked about the dangers of GoDaddy. GoDaddy has a little hidden thing in their ToS where if they get a complaint about spam, they'll lock your domain, and then it costs $190 to unlock it. Mike's point was that this isn't really the registrar's responsibility to deal with this... it's the HOST. What this REALLY is, is a way for GoDaddy to monetize an otherwise low profit margin business. To add insult to injury, there's only one way to resolve a spam complaint with GoDaddy, and that is to send an email (which they don't get back with you). Mike ended up waiting 24 days once and had to threaten legal action to get one of his domains unlocked (it was during a launch, so think about that). NameCheap understands Internet Marketing, and they understand that you'll get the stray affiliate spamming and it's not your fault. NameCheap will not lock up your domain because you get a stray complaint. |
