What are the best prcatices for Amazon in my case...

Hello Warriors,

I'm building an Amazon website. Products that I'm promoting on it are very simple and straightforward, so my first question is:

If product is really simple and straightforward, is there even a point to write a review or would it be better if I just have an image of the product and once people click on it, they get send to an Amazon product page?

That leads me to the second question regarding Amazon plugins:
I know that some Amazon plugins have a functionality to have a purchasing cart right on the website (so people don't have to go to Amazon, but sales still get processed by Amazon). Do you get better conversions like that or it doesn't matter much?

I know that people don't like getting redirected to to many pages. I want it to be simple and customer friendly. If anyone has any experience please advise

Thank you in advance

I would suggest to add your own features and benefits of the products in an effort to pre-sell the potential customer. Once they hit the Amazon site, the rest is out of your control. So if you can get them a little more excited about the product before they jump, it can't hurt to increase the likelihood of a sale.

But as always, make sure you test adding your own comments vs. just showing the picture.

Without content, how are you going to capture traffic? I presume you will not be relying on Google organic for traffic?

Also, you don't need a plugin to use the Amazon add-to-cart feature:

Some plugins make it easier to add but they are not required.

Many products are simple and straight forward, but you still got to get people to buy them.

If someone is searching for a product they usually want to learn more about it. And content is important for rankings on the search engines.

By all means just post images and the name of the product and see how that converts for you.

Hey thanks for the link Tom but I might want to make it look more professional then what they offer on Amazon.

And yes I will be relying on Google traffic. I will capture traffic with product category pages not exact product themselves and with the main page.

Well, the product is very simple. It's something like "spare tire cover". If you have a website selling spare tire covers there is no need to describe every single one of them. Mine is similar.

What I was thinking is having some content describing the category itself (ex. say sexy spare tire covers)and then pictures of different sexy spare tires each linked to appropriate Amazon pages.

      What do you guys think?

All that code does it add the buy button. There is no other code that works. Now, if you are talking about the site design itself, that's totally different. Just be aware that anyone saying you need a theme or plugin to get the cart is lying to you.

At its best I would like to have a picture of the product, Amazon buy button, stars for customer reviews on Amazon and Amazon likes. The rest I would rather do it myself. Is there a way to have that? (I also want it to be dynamic, so if rating on the product changes, my site updates too)

If you don't add a review, or any other value, why would anyone buy from you specifically rather than from Amazon, that they already know?

Good question! Mine is going to be nicely organized by category and type to make it easier for people to browse through and see their choice

The cart feature is cool because it gives you a 90-day cookie when people add amazon items to their carts, as opposed to 24 hours when they simply visit amazon through your aff links.

I don't have an Amazon site yet but have been told that a lot of associates prefer to send people straight to their Amazon carts. I guess they prefer to just try and close the deal quickly before second-thoughts arise. Personally, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me because what if they want to continue browsing through the other items that I have carefully organized for them?

As for selling, almost no item truly sells itself. And it's a good point that people will just go to Amazon if you offer no advantage. You have to get creative--even if it's just boring tire covers. Get $1 articles on i-writer from different writers. Then they won't sound exactly alike, but you'll still get loads of content. Maybe there's something more creative than that, but that's a good start.

Thanks to everybody for their input! I decided that putting a little review for each product wouldn't hurt. Thanks again!

I built a site based on wolf's amazon blueprint and made around $300 over a few months. I wrote about 20 or so 300-500 word reviews and ranked really well for a while. Unfortunately I let the site sit for a couple months without writing any reviews and the traffic just stopped. I think the strategy really works if you stay on it though.

Your review should be a unique take on the product. You should point out something specific that you find interesting because Amazon basically provides the specs. To be different than Amazon, I would recommend that you have a completely different layout than what Amazon has.

I used some PHP code in my sidebar to layout the products specs, similar items, etc. then used the custom fields to display each talking point (pros, cons, summary, etc) in the body of the page. I displayed a large image of the product and put in some links to Amazon. This has worked for me so far.

How do you go about writing reviews for newly released products? If you have never used the item and there is nothing online to gather info from how do you offer an honest review?

        Any suggestions would be appreciated

          @Scott

What I often do is contact the manufacturer/vendor for information and specs. Many new products will have press releases available and even video demos.
