Joomla is the more powerful CMS and once you learn the ins and outs, it quickly becomes one of the best free resources out there for webmasters. I think the popularity of Wordpress largely has to do with the ease it can be setup. Especially for someone completely new. |

Why is Joomla the dark side?? Joomla is THE most powerful CMS there is on the web. Trust me, if you learn the ins and outs of joomla, then it won't be the dark side...it's the light. However, please remember that when you run a joomla site, it runs pretty slow on shared servers because it's very resource intensive. |

Joomla is good for some things and I have used since it was called Mambo. Personally though I like Wordpress as a CMS just because it is cleaner and more responsive. I also do a lot of sites for small businesses and always have trouble explaining the concepts in Joomla but it is easy with wordpress. Quentin |

I went through the same thing last year. Eventually you'll need to go back to a blog for something that doesn't require the complications of Joomla! and you will smack yourself in the head a bit. I still have both, but the WP is easier for some things. I won't lie to you though - I still dip into Joomla! when no one is looking ![]() And don't let people scare you with saying the Joomla! sites won't rank like wordpress. If they don't rank it's because the user has not fully explored all the the fields that hold the keywords and meta keywords, and etc. Unfortunately you will get no intervention assistance from me. I still chase the dragon. |

Hi, Interesting thread, I have learnt joomla, but now I want to learn wordpress. I guess its because wordpress is more recognised as being an easier CMS, personally I found joomla fairly easy once you go through the intial learning curve. So what should I do, advance my skills in joomla, or learn wordpress? Phil |

You can probably learn Wordpress in a couple of days, especially if you have some experience. The really great thing about Wordpress is the "community" that surrounds it, that means there are always new themes, plugins, etc to use. It's simple yet powerful at the same time, which is why it's so popular. | |

Google likes Joomla and WP the same. WP just gets listed faster because of pings. I hear this debate all the time. Joomla was created as a CMS from scratch. Wordpress was created as a Blog. Yes, WP is easier...it's also limited though. It's not setup well to handle tons of content and organize it. For example, if you name a WP page "About the Book", it will appear in your WP menu as "About the Book". You can't change it unless you dive into the raw code. Joomla inherently separates the article and menu. So you can have a menu called "About" that points to a page called "About the Menu". Recently, you're seeing all these WP developers trying to hack WP to death in order to create a CMS. Pretty weird if you ask me. They're trying to make WP into something it was never meant to be. That said, WP certainly has it's place. Blogs, niches, small sites...that's perfect for WP. Meanwhile, Joomla is great for building scaleables that 'include' blogs. |

Started with wordpress, then got interested with Joomla.. switched side for over a year, and then moved back to wordpress. Like someone mentioned, its resource intensive.. Another thing, its comes with a a big learning curve.. after one year, i still didnt understand the many parts of the joomla interface, and got to run to my programmer for help. Wordpress best assets is its popularity, useabilty and ease of use. Joomla is just for the nerds :-P |
