Which Would You Pick? Problem or Solution?

If you are choosing a domain, would you focus on the problem or the solution?

Example: BadDogs.com or GoodDogs.com

BadDogs.com - The logo and site would focus on dogs that are bad and naturally you have the solution.

GoodDogs.com - Same concept, but the logo and site would be more positive overall.

(The above domains are just examples, I don't own them or plan to)

I welcome your thoughts.

    How about both?

    BaddogGooddog.com

    Or Baddog-to-Gooddog.com

    Or Baddog-into-Gooddog.com

Actually I like the first one baddoggooddog.com

Then your logo can have both a bad dog and good dog, maybe even having one dog with a devils tail, and the other with a halo, lol

The logo concept of "devil dog" and "halo dog" is a fun idea to play with as it immediately produces an image of "before and after" for any potential buyer.

I'd focus on the positive, associate your site with good solutions, rather than possible problems...just my opinion, no science behind it.

Depends. What would your target market be searching for to find you? And, why?

Problem or solution is more about image.

If someone is searching for how to fix their problem, would they rather purchase from a "negative" site or a "positive" site?

Which one would get more attention?

People love to talk about negative stuff. "Oh my did you see that baddog.com site! There really are some bad dogs out there!"

All the best with whatever you choose.

I'd rather to see how bad your dog in your site and then compare it with my own dog. So I know what kind of problem that you can solve. Definitely go for the problem, check dogproblems.com. the owner of that site knows that people only search something based on the problem.

Most people search for answers to their problems, since they don't yet know the solution. If I was searching for how to get rid of fleas from my dog for example, I'd search for the problem since I don't yet know what solution I'm looking for. If I had a dog with fleas, I wouldn't look for 'flea free dog' items for example I'd look for "how to get rid of dog fleas"

Problem orientated searches are usually based around questions - "how do I... What gets rid of... How can I...."

Positive site will get you a customer who wants a good dogs in general. They just pass by your site to get valuable information about how to train a dog with better skill. So, if you want it that way, you definitely don't want baddogs.com

I will rather focus on more brandable and memorable name. Take a look at most successful sites they are about brand - warriorforum.com, amazon.com.

And since gave dog example I know of dogingtonpost.com and doggyholic.com

No problem nor solution stated in the name.

    Brandable
    Memorable
    And possibly Entertaining

Thanks for the website reference. That approach works extremely well.

Most people do search based on the problem they are having in order to find their solutions.

I guess that's why I was thinking to focus more on the negative branding than positive.

However, I'm not worried about search engine traffic. You can take any website and rank for what you want...allowing you to brand your domain instead of buying an EMD.

      Brandable, memorable, and possible entertaining!

      I like your thinking.

This is why I was considering branding towards the negative side as it would potentially be more memorable.

In that case Lee - it is ok but will have to do with your niche. Do you see other people doing that with success?

In my opinion it does not matter much as for what domain name you choose. Whichever you buy, you can talk about any topic you want and get your article ranked (if thats what you are trying to do). If there is something that Im not getting here then I appologise (and would appreciate if you correct me) but honestly I dont think it matters much.

Visitors would most likely want to search for a positive one. And I think it is more advantageous if you would bear a positive website name. Just my personal point of view.

I think the bad dog website would get more searches. Simply because people enter their problem in google to find the solution, which would bring them to your site.

You won't find people entering in google "how to train a good dog" since they don't have a problem. They would enter "how to train a bad dog"

People go online to find solutions to problems, that's what you should anticipate for.
