    I don't think it's as frightening as the comment on that article seem to believe. The FTC has already gone after some site owners making claims they couldn't document with facts.

    No reason to believe they wouldn't do the same with blogs or Social Media at some point. Would the internet be worse off if paid testimonials and paid reviews didn't occur? I doubt it. Would Social Media be less effective if those claiming huge imaginary incomes from their products were culled?

    Blogs and social media are very powerful. All you have to do is look around at general forums for any topic where there is an 'off topic' forum available. Here its not a big issue, we all know what blogs are and how much credibility they may or may not hold. but i've been on forums where people get whipped into a frenzy over a blog written by 'General Joe R Soldier U.S. Army (ret) and if you read it you can tell the blog is just some random person firing off their mouth and using the pen name to add to their own credibility.
