Confused and Overwhelmed Where and How to Start

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen of this forum,

I am Peter Thomas. I am a Mainframe Computer Programmer (COBOL/CICS/DB2) working as a consultant at a large Insurance company.

The way I found this forum is very interesting. Our team at my office works on the Enrollment and Billing system and call ourselves "The Warriors". Out of curiosity, I entered "warriors" or something like that in Google and happen to stumble upon this forum.

Once I browsed this forum, I was confused and overwhelmed at the information and the jargon such as, SEO, PPC, CPC, OTO, upsell, niche, market (in fact, what is the difference between a niche and market), affiliate marketing, and the like. I concluded that this place is for those entrepreneurs who already have a brick and mortar store or provide services like plumbers, electricians, doctors, lawyers etc., and use internet as one of their medium to advertise their product or services apart from direct mail, TV, bill boards, etc.,

People used the word "Information Product" and "eBook" interchangeably. This confused me. I thought people read eBook version of the print book on devices like kindle, nook, and iPad. I also thought that one has to have some kind of credentials to write books on health, relationships, selling, and so on. However, I read posts where people were saying that anyone could write on any subject and some people might buy an "information product" or "eBook". Is that really true?

On a positive note, the posts here gave me the idea that I could be an entrepreneur too. My little self was shot back at me, "Peter, who would like to learn mainframe programming from you as everyone is going mobile and websites etc.,". Ignoring my little self, I sat down and since I like to write, started writing all my skills right from my teenage years. The following were on my list:

I love to read and write (informally in a notebook, none of my writings are published anywhere) in the evenings and weekend. My reading and writing relaxes me as well as stimulates me.

I had volunteered at a homeopathic dispensary when I was in high school. Simple pills and kind words cured the villagers. The villagers were grateful to both the doctors and the volunteers. This interested me to seek natural and non-invasive remedies, I started sharing that with my family and friends, and some of them were happy with the results.

Question: How can I make use of this knowledge without a formal degree in any alternative medicine?

I am a vegetarian and love to prepare and eat simple snacks, trail mixes, and smoothies of wide variety.

I strive to constantly improve my self so that I can improve others.

Question: How can I turn this knowledge into serving people sincerely and providing value?

Therefore, I am looking forward to hear your suggestions as to how I can use my knowledge by providing value and service to people and in the end earn some money too!

I strive to constantly improve my self so that I can improve others.

Thanks,

Peter.

The simple thing is write a book on what you know. Recipes and healthy foods are a good way to start. If you start to write about homeopathy without being qualified you might strike some legal issues.
Once you have written the book turn it into an ebook (which is just a digital version of a book that people download from the internet).
Find out how to present it. You can get a cover designed on fiverr.com.
    Sell it on Amazon
You can find videos on this on Youtube or maybe search the Warrior Forum for people who are selling courses on how to do this.
I found it all confusing at first but keep reading and researching and it will all come together

Welcome to our world, men. After you will feel the first taste of success you will never be able to stop.
Ok, first of all every one started like you at some point and you gave me a bit of remembering how I first heard of Direct Selling Business and how exited I was with my first $100 that I earned.
My advice would be: do some research. read posts, watch videos where people sharing their experience. That will prevent you from doing some mistakes that others been through.

Recipe books are good sellers. There are a ton on Amazon Kindle. Smoothie recipes are always in demand although there are thousands of free recipes online. People are lazy and like to have them in one place though.

Best if you can think of a new angle for a book like for example vegetarian recipes for the single mum. You get the idea. Just search amazon to get ideas. Learn to do keyword research.

Books on natural remedies but not homeopathic also seem to be in demand.

There are courses on ebook writing and marketing if you do a search.
There is quite a lot of free info here:

    Good luck

    Don't over complicate things...

Start by writing about what it is that you know and the rest will fall into place.

You could start up two blogs. One on Vegan lifestyle. The other on Self Improvement.

Post to these sights on regular basis. Share your experience and knowledge. Be yourself.

After getting some posts up search the warrior forum for ways to get your sites known. Get your name out there eventually you will get a following.

Then find out ways to monetize your sites. You will find this forum has plenty of information to help you out.

These are very good niches. Seen you have an interest in them will make it quite enjoyable for you.

It will take some time and work to get things happening but I'm sure you will find it rewarding.

You can create free e-book versions of your subject and distribute them around the net to get some initial momentum going. Then create a paid version of your book. Your website will be your hub and you could do something like email out a free smoothie recipie a day to your subscribers as well as promote your book to them.

    Hiya ,

I see a lot of advice written here and everyone so far has given you solid information, but I fear that the multiple different responses will only serve to frustrate you even more.

My bit of advice to you is to take a step back for a second. You have stumbled into a new way to view the world and the internet. Welcome; however, being on this forum and being new to the world of IM (which stands for Internet Marketing) can very quickly get overwhelming.

Take a step back and do a bit of research. Take all of those terms you are confused about and look them up, see what they mean and how they are used in business.

Once you have done that you should start to look into the different business models that are available. Making a list of things you are interested in is an incredible start and I give you kudos on taking the time to do it, now all you have to do is find a business model that can be applied to your interest.

The most important thing I can tell you, the advice I wish I had listened to when I started out, is to find a business model you feel can be applied to your interests, research it to make sure it is something you can get excited about, and then STICK TO IT!

Once you find that business model stay away from every post on this forum that doesn't have something to do with the model. Focus 100% on building that model and you will be lightyears ahead of almost everyone else (including me) when they started out.

If you have any questions or would just like to chat about internet marketing feel free to send me a message on this forum or add me on Skype at gglunis

You should read many posts in this forum and understand the basics about internet marketing. Don’t do anything before understanding the meaning of your actions.

The right way to begin is not by doing things without following a plan and without having a clear purpose in mind.

First of all, educate yourself and understand what you are trying to achieve.

It is not a good idea to begin by creating your own product if you have no experience.

First of all learn the basics, and try to promote affiliate products so that you may learn the difficulties on promoting a product and beating the competition.

Before writing whatever you have to find your audience and understand what exactly they want to buy.

You have to learn all the steps you have to follow to sell your ebook before creating it, otherwise you will make many mistakes that you won't be able to correct later.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
It's called analysis paralysis. (Google it)
Just stick to one method and work with it until you make money
or it's not worth your time anymore.

    Peter here is my suggestion.

Upgrade your membership to be able to access a section called war room if you can't already. You will find some cool old stuffs (that are still relevant) and new stuffs there too.

    Regarding your ideas.

Spend some time to see what other people on the topic are writing and talking about on it.

Good start will definitely be to get few discussion boards on the topic to join. You will get more insights regarding your market.

You can then start a simple blog. Where you first post can be simple introduction of yourself and your intentions. People in the forums will definitely want to welcome you and some will end up following you by the time you start sharing your knowledge.

From their you can then start building your followers either as list of subscribers, facebook fan, or twitter follower.

Don't get overwhelmed. Take it a step at a time and ask question here.

      Hello Lateef,

You just answered my next question I was about to ask, which is, "what would my first post be in my blog?".

What is the War Room? I was asked if I wanted to join for an extra $37? I wanted to first learn ABC's of Internet Marketing and take one step at a time and not spend too much money in the beginning. Is that not okay? Should I have to invest a lot of money to learn? I am not in a hurry. My philosophy is take one step at a time. This philosophy has helped me to become the first person in my family to emigrate to America as a Computer Programmer from the South East Asis.

      Regards,
      Peter.

War Room is a private discussion area. You will find good info that warriors won't share in the general section there for free.

Upgrading your warrior membership will definitely help.
