Quick Question:

Want to promote Amazon.co.uk products, already have an Amazon.com associate/affiliate account,

do I have to open another one for .co.uk or is the Amazon.com associate account sufficient to promote Amazon.co.uk products also?

Yes, you'll need to join the Amazon.co.uk affiliate program to promote products through Amazon.co.uk

Yes. It's a separate company and you can earn from promoting its products only by being an affiliate of that company. The same for amazon.ca and the other five/six Amazon companies, too. It's a nuisance.

Be aware that amazon.co.uk has an affiliate commission ceiling of £7 per item, regardless of retail price.

Alexa, 7 Pound commission even for a thousand pound product?

    That is utterly ridiculous

I was shocked when I first found out about the commission cap. Sold a treadmill at £1,400 and received just £7 commission.

      Now, I only promote products between £40 - £150.

The cap only applies per item. If the customer buys 5 products each with a £7 cap, you'll receive £35 commission. The cap is quite crazy but it's still possible to make a decent income from Amazon UK providing you have the rigt traffic and a converting page.

      Yes, indeed. :p

You can get inbuilt IP-recognition software which automatically sends your visitors to the Amazon company from which they'd buy, without needing to give multiple links to the various options.

Amazon has different websites for United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Japan, and China. In order to maximize sales it is advisable to have an account with each of them. It will take you a few minutes to sign up with each of them but it is an investment for a lifetime.

On your website, you can use a plugin called Amazon Link Localizer available free at Wordpress.org which will direct visitors to their local Amazon website. By using a localizer plugin your sales will go up as you will be able to gain from clickthroughs of have visitors from US, UK and Canada as well as English-speaking visitors from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Japan, and China. Without a localizer visitors from other countries will tend to leave your site and go to their local site.

Max P thank you for pointing out that Amazon Link Localizer plugin. I have been looking for just such a plugin for my Golden Retriever site.

Darn, I've been looking for "something" to help me sell according to visitor location, and now I get to know it is not only a WP plugin but free!

I'm going to give it a good read but how does it work? There are many products not available in the co.uk that are available in the .com version, how do you solve this? Do you tell the localizer to send the visitor to another related product?
