I suck at getting traffic!!! Help!!

I can research markets, write sales letters, products, do graphics myself, build websites, figure out the code to protect downloads, add payment buttons, pop ups, and everything else involved in selling infoproducts except....get traffic! I seem to be stuck at getting traffic and I'm hurting for real methods, here. So when it comes to testing my sales letters for conversion rates before opening them up to affiliates, I'm at a loss.

PPC - expensive, but I suppose the best way to get targeted traffic for testing purposes....??? But then if I have pop-ups that re-direct to a trial offer, I can't use at least Google PPC. So I can't ever test the real sales page to see if it works using this method.

Article marketing - since Farmer, as far as mass submissions to article directories go, is now apparently very weak and no help to SEO either because of diluted PR

Building a niche site - takes years, and my two experiences with it have been lackluster at best - two niche sites get OK traffic, but this took YEARS to develop and HUNDREDS of articles written - I need to test conversion rates for this sales letter and place it in the CB Marketplace, not write a hundred more articles and wait a year for Google to rank it and then HOPE it ranks it in the right keyword range.

Guest posting - seems like a good method, but then direct the traffic....where? Not to a sales page. The site owner ain't gonna like a guest post if it is just a pre-pitch for a product. So direct the traffic to a niche site then? And then what? Have to build a whole niche site just to test a sales letter? Here we go again. Seems like more product creation when I already have a product.

What else is there? All these methods seem lackluster at best. I have dozens of ebooks on internet marketing, and they are all very good at describing product research, creation, etc, and then they all end with "Oh, you now, now all you have to do is send traffic to it!"

Any suggestions, here?

There are other PPC than Google. Bing/Microsoft still allows linking directly to offers and squeeze pages.

Yeah, I would probably not use article marketing for this kind of traffic/site.

I think mass-submission "article marketing" isn't as usefull for quick cheap traffic these days.

Since you will be relying on PPC and other traffic methods, not SEO, you could build a nice looking mini-site so it isn't just a squeeze page and you don't need to worry about number of pages, seo and Google ranking.

If you were a War Room member I would send you to Jarrett's excellent thread:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/war-room...-friendly.html

Jarrett primarily uses guest posting to send traffic to his squeeze page and says he has never had a blog owner complain about where the link in his bio box goes. This is in non-IM niches.

Have you actually had blog owners refuse your articles because your website is a squeeze page? Or have you not bothered to try because you assume they would?

    Solo Ads
Since you are creating a sales page for Clickbank and want to test it, I would suggest Solo Ads. You can get cheap direct traffic to quickly test.

And this type of traffic (coming from affiliate links in email) is exactly the kind of traffic you are going to get when affiliates in Clickbank send the offer to their list and should be a good test of your landing page.

    I do agree with Mahlon.

Most of the methods you stated are free traffic ones.
Can be pretty targeted but very slow..
    Not really recommended.

I strongly recommend to use solo ads.
The traffic is highly targeted. and
you can immediately see results from it.

There are good solo vendors in WF.
Can PM me if you need some recommendations.

    Hope these helps.

What do you consider to be OK traffic and what's the PR on the sites?
I get reasonable traffic on my sales pages just from Google search, with PR of 2--nothing amazing, but good keywords, since I've written a fair bit about the background of the topics and what my products are about.

Also, I suggest you put in in the Marketplace now even if you don't yet know conversion rates and haven't split tested your copy. Getting affiliates will help your ranking and number of visitors and then you will be able to do the testing.

"place it in the CB Marketplace"

Are you getting CB affiliate traffic?

Otherwise, if you are looking for SEO traffic my hunch is the nature of your website and a CB affiliation means Google will nuke your site regardless of what you do.

You also haven't given us much to go on, except to make excuses as to why you think some methods may not work.

    - PPC means you can't test a popup page for affiliates.
    - Article marketing you think is dead after farmers
    - Need traffic to test page for a niche site.
    - Guest posting - you wonder why a website would allow this

I see a lot of excuses for not doing instead of doing and asking for specific advice about why something specific is not working. What exactly have you done?

I would suggest some paid traffic for testing your conversion rate. At least it comes quickly. Try media buying or facebook ppc and see how that works out for you

Hi kindsvater. I haven't placed it on the Marketplace yet because I wanted to get some conversion statistics first, in order to market better to the affiliates on CB. I've heard from several people that it's better to not let affiliates be the guinea pigs for an untested sales letter. But, of course, there may be other opinions.

Otherwise, if you are looking for SEO traffic my hunch is the nature of your website and a CB affiliation means Google will nuke your site regardless of what you do.
Yeah, and I've farted around with SEO and niche sites enough in the past for Adsense purposes. I have now shifted on to product creation and treating it more like a real business. I can and probably will still build a small niche site, however, but I still need to just test the sales letter for now and tweak if necessary.

You also haven't given us much to go on, except to make excuses as to why you think some methods may not work.
Not excuses, just lost. I am not lost (or at least don't feel lost) in any other aspect of this business apart from traffic-building.

I see a lot of excuses for not doing instead of doing and asking for specific advice about why something specific is not working. What exactly have you done?

      .
In the past, I mainly built niche websites to make money on Adsense clicks. I wrote hundreds of articles for each site, submitted them to directories, submitted articles to directories, and did some link building. OK results, but even if they were good, building a niche site from scratch and waiting for organic traffic is not what I need right this second, which is simply to test the sales letter, get conversion rates, and then market the product to affiliates to hopefully take it from there.

Thats a market... Not a niche, that is a MASSIVE market, but to address where you would get decent amounts of traffic from would be Facebook and Twitter. It is shocking the amount of re-tweets and likes I see on things to do with that market and that is on my own personal feeds. There are plenty of groups on Facebook serving this market, there are also plenty of people looking on twitter for these sorts of products... How much have you looked into social media to drive traffic?

          You mentioned FOUR traffic sources.

          There are hundreds out there.

Some of the lowest barrier to entry sources I've found are:

YouTube: Insane, insane traffic source. 20% of internet users visit YouTube every week. Why not make a presentation and record a video over it to help people with that health problem your site talks about?

SlideShare: Mostly business traffic, but a top 150 Alexa can't be wrong.

Forum Marketing: Forums might be the more underrated traffic source online. Unlike SEO where you have to wait, by contributing value in a forum, you're getting traffic on tap.

There are so many others, but that should give you an idea.

          But it all starts with....

          ...wait for it...

          A great site!

If you have a crappy site, it's going to be VERY hard to get traffic. And the people that do visit your site won't covert very well.

Trust me: I've run tiny MFA sites and legit sites and I can tell you that legit sites are MUCH easier to market and monetize.

Solo ads might be a bit more challenging to come by in your market as opposed to IM.

Facebook ads, is the quickest even though conversions aren't sky high (but you should get half decent conversions at least to a good squeeze page).

I would follow the suggestions above on guest posting.

That is why you have to research... You could be given a method and you will not know what to do with it because you lack the basics. I suggest you look into methods from social media, you could also use YouTube /video sites. I would suggest looking into PURL postcard marketing. It has been very good for me and produces the most targeted traffic I've ever seen. Plus you can mail to lists made up of exclusively buyers. They convert at a tremendous rate in my experience.

Plus I've noticed it's much more scalable than anything I've found online. Once you have a converting postcard you can just mail it to more and more buyer lists.

I really do find that writing unique content EVERY SINGLE day is the best thing to do for any website that needs traffic. Once you start driving the content by building unique content you can then wrap that content with either ads that generate revenue, or product links that you are wanting to sell. However, my biggest success has got to be Guest Posting that links to good quality chewable content on my websites that visitors will actually be interested in reading in full.

Butters is right, listen to him.

And I would suggest working on those niche sites that you have instead.

In fact, here, i'll give you my super top secret plan for the site i'm releasing next week.

My main site: full of great info, with a blog that i'll \update daily for the first 3 weeks, then weekly afterward.

    Traffic:
    - Interviews, i'll interview the top dogs in my niche, then they'll tell the people on their site, "check out my interview!"
    - Forums, i'll participate in the local forums, maybe pay to advertise it there. I'll get my name out there.
    - SEO, maybe after a month i'll hire someone to do seo work for me.
    - PPC? Nah, not going to go into this right now if everything else is converting i'll higher someone to do it.

Than, when I have traffic, I:

    -Build a list!
    -Make money from ads!
    -Release an ebook!

Then I take the money, and go and start another new website.

Than afterwards i'll see you guys on vacation in Cancun!

    Hello hammiesink,

I agree about forum marketing, especially in forums that relate to health and alternative health - there are bunches of them. Just make sure that you are contributing first with useful posts before you start adding signature files and links (some forums don't allow you to post these before a certain number of posts are posted).

Additionally, you really need to utilize social media - Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn. Also keep in mind the social bookmarking websites: Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, Delicious, etc.

Make sure you're testing and tracking to know which traffic sources are doing well for you and which aren't. Make sure you're getting their contact information as well and building a list- that way, you will be sure to building a valuable asset for both now and in the future.

Hope this helps - good luck!

I think Free Traffic methods are great but nothing beats paid traffic.

Set a side a budget each month that you are willing to "invest" for traffic. Choose one method and just work at it. Most IM don't make it as they don't take it seriously. Treat your IM as a real business and spend some money on Marketing.

There are many paid traffic methods which isn't very expensive too. Other than soloads, you can look for PPV, PPC and media buys. All these are great!

If y ou use a combination of the different traffic methods, you should get traffic. However, what you need to remember though, is thta you're not going to get traffic in droves all of the time.

Using a combination of traffic methods such as article marketing, gust posting, free ebooks and reports to give away, and anything else that you can possibly think of here will help to increase traffic to your site.

Not one single traffic method is going to be the be all end all for getting traffic to your site. It takes a combination of methods all working together for one single purpose and that is to drive traffic to the site.

Even if you use things like social bookmarking, Twitter, Facebook and Pintrest, that still isn't all that you need to do. Another method for getting traffic is giveaway events.

Put your free e-book on a giveaway event and build a list that way, and then drive that list to your site, and there you go, traffic!

List building, article marketing, blogging, commenting on blogs, guest posting on blogs, youtube, sound cloud, giving free e-books and reports away are just a few of the many ways to drive traffic to your site.
