How do you track what segment of traffic subscribes?

At the moment I've got a few different sources of traffic let's say A, B, C and D.

People subscribes on my blog every day but I've never taken the time to see if it's A, B, C or D who sends me the subscribers and the buyers.

I want to understand the quality of my sources, so that I can focus my energy on increasing the traffic that comes from them and stop wasting my time on sources who give me useless traffic.

I use Aweber and Google Analytics.

Technically speaking how do I track what segment of my traffic subscribes?

You need to use Google analytics conversion tracking by embedding tracking code on your landing page and your thank you page:

      thanks freotech,
but isn't this to check out what keywords convert best?
I don't want that, I get traffic mainly from syndication and want to know what traffic source gives me the best traffic, I dont care much about keywords (for now).

  • Make sure you have an hosted thank you page that are shown when visitor subscribe to your newlettes - not the default aweber (you can find this in Web Form -> Settings)

Make sure your thank you page contains Google Analytics tracking code.

Take the URL of your thank you page and set a goal using "Head Match".

In Google Analytics Select Traffic Source > Referrals on the very top of the report you will see a blue link (Goal Set 1). Click on this link you will see the conversion rate by referrals.

    Happy Tracking
