Who Makes Full Time Income From Blogging and How Long Did It Take You To Do It?

Wonder if any bloggers are willing to share their stories of building a blog to a full time income producing business that supports mortgage payments, phone bills, car payments, children, small furry animals...you know all of life's little blessings?

1) How long did it take in terms of months?
2) How long did it take in the number of posts?
3) How is your blog monetized?
4) What is your best revenue stream?
5) How much do you earn (optional and will earn you karma points in the blogging afterlife).

How do you define full time income? $500 a month? $1000 a month? $3k a month? Fulltime income means different things to different people from different parts of the world at different stages of their lives...

It all depends on how much work you do, how quick you do it, and if the work you do is the right work to make money...

All of your questions are dependent mostly on one thing... YOU!

That's right. The only person WHO CAN DICTATE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU MAKE is named Y-O-U.

      Get a plan.
      Put in the work.
      Take the risks.
Learn what you need to learn.
      Make adjustments.
      Rinse and repeat.

Well, the good news is that you get a lot of freedom while you're building your success. Instead of worrying and moping, people should keep their nose to the grindstone and keep at it. There are no shortcuts.

Depends on your target and niche which you get involved. You can reach your target in 1 - 12 months.

I see a blog with few posts only can get thousands of targeted traffic from forums. You can have few posts or hundreds of posts, but don't use autoblogging to get the content.

I see a blog which earns $100,000 per month (this is not mine).

You must be realistic in setting a goal with blogging.

Most of the Big Money Blogs I have seen are personal blogs... What I mean by that is these people make 1 blog about their skill or passion and devote everything into that blog and their sites are engaging and are about building relationships... They usually monetize by selling their own products and once they have the traffic they sell ad space, plus they do some affiliate marketing through list building and also banner ads...

for example look up John Chow's Blog and you will see great example. I know his site is making money because it is personal and doesn't feel like a sales site.

Me personally I have build many blogs and websites. I got really good at design and making them look really good, but never got any traffic and if people don't see your blog you wont make money and if you just send traffic to a blog without engagement you get super low conversion rates.

This has been my experience and now I have been trying to change it by making a personal blog like the one in my sig and sticking with this 1 site.

I started a blog and within 4 months was earning over $5K/month. I had 10 years of prior SEO and IM experience before the launch and I had a plan.

That blog has remained steady for the past few months. Total costs are $30.50/month for a profit of over $5k. i spent NO MONEY on the blog either. I used all free WP plugins.

I can't remember. But not very many and that was a figure of no relevance to me or to my income. The money comes from the traffic and the monetization by email, not from the number of posts published on my own blogs. All they can bring you is a bit of SEO traffic, and hardly anyone's making a living that way. It's how you drive traffic to your blog that matters, and you don't do that just by posting on it.

By list-building (and affiliate sales of ClickBank products and a few other things, but when I started, it was ClickBank only, and that's still my biggest income-producer by far).

I'll just repeat what I've said many times in the past, up until I stopped giving figures.

I earned about $3,500 in each of my 5th and 6th months (after earning very little indeed before that), and another year after that (i.e. about a year and a half after starting) my average monthly income had risen to about $10,000. That was nearly 3 years ago. It's continued to grow, but I don't give figures now; sorry. Not even for the karma. Anyway, that karma sometimes has a habit of running over other people's dogma.

      Thanks for the info Alexa!

I actually DO think that giving concrete numbers are a great way to help motivate people. You sometimes wonder whether or not many of the "gurus" (not referring to you of course!) ever really made any money, or if they're just hyping inflated figures to get people to buy their new scammy product.

It IS nice to know that making a living through blogging is not only possible, but profitable (of course, this is only if you put in the time, effort and energy, and do it RIGHT).

Alexa raises a good point that many beginning marketers miss. The point is: you put in the effort and very little seems to be happening. However, behind the scenes, things are piling up and you experience a BREAKTHROUGH later. Keep that in mind. Don't give up.
