I just grabbed this a little while ago actually. It looks promising. It does a heatmap of your website. The setup took a couple of seconds on Wordpress. Just installed their plugin and added my code. Right now it is collecting data and says it will display the results in 22 hours.

    From the site:

Where your visitors are clicking speaks for itself.
Here are just a few things you can discover:

Find the right spot for your ads
Find the right layout for a page
Find the right place to put everything
    We'll see what happens.

      Yes, this.

Crazy Egg is basing the correlation between traditional heat mapping (which uses eye-tracking technology requiring hardare) and their system that tracks the mouse.

Although not necessarily looking at exactly the same point, a study did find a close relation.

The idea is based on this study: http://csi.ufs.ac.za/resres/files/Chen.pdf

"In term of regions, eye gaze visited about 50% of regions in average, and cursor visited about 38%. Of the regions that a mouse cursor visited, 84% of them were also visited by an eye gaze. Furthermore, among the regions that the eye gaze didn't visit, 88% of them were not visited by the mouse cursor, either."

Actually, you will find the mouse and eyes are in very close proximity of one another for the majority of web surfers for the majority of time. You might not realize when you do it yourself but studies have shown that.

I know I certainly move my house around where my eyes are looking when I'm visiting and scrolling sites.

I think this software is most useful for long sales letters where split-testing is difficult. Otherwise, regular AB testing is usually the way to go.
