Help with domain name purchase please!

Ok so this might seem like a dumb question but let's say I want to purchase a domain name....

Four words...the first two being a company name and the latter two being a niche they are involved with.

How does this relate when people do a search? What I mean by this is do they have to put in ALL four words of the domain for it to show in the SERPS or will it still have an effect on my domain in the SERPS if they were to search purely for the company name (first two words) or the niche (3rd & 4th words)??

Again, sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm no SEO expert!

Thanking you all in advance,

Andy

Hmmm ... that sounds pretty long for a domain-name? No law against it, of course ... but it's a bit "unwieldy"?

    No.

But if the company's name is the first part of the domain-name, it's perhaps going to rank better in the SERP's for searches of that than for searches of the later part of the domain-name. (Partly depending on the ranking potential of the competing pages, admittedly).

(Is it your company? You're not intending to put someone else's company name in your domain-name, without permission? "Just checking"! )

    Yes.

Not so good for searches of the 3rd/4th words, though. Whatever you foresee people searching for, to the extent that "matching domain-names" are relevant at all (and that's perhaps a declining extent, these days), you'd want the search-term to be at the start of the domain-name.

You'd be better asking here, actually: Adsense / PPC / SEO Discussion Forum

That is way to long of a domain...unless it is a very easy to say, remember and repeat name. Try for something brandable or just use your own company name. Once you get better at SEO you'll be able to rank it for whatever terms you want. Some things you'll want to remember are:

    1. Make it easily repeatable. Ask a few friends to write it down when you say it. If anyone misspells it, don't use it.
    2. Is it too long to have placed on a pen or other items if you ever order things for it?
    3. With four words, will it fit in PPC ads if you run them?
    4. Is it easy to type in all four words and are they easy to spell?
    5. Is it memorable or are you just going for keywords?

    Hope this helps.

    Adam
