Buying a taken domain name, what's a good price?

Hey, I'm thinking of buying a domain (never bought one before that was unavailable). The domain I want has estibot saying it's worth 740. My question is... if anyone has experience buying domains, do you usually end up paying close to that amount? What percent of that amount would be a good starting bid? I was thinking of bidding 500, does that sound like a reasonable offer?

The domain is a dot com exact match for a keyword with over 500k monthly global searches, but it's 3 words and 15 characters (without the dot com).

Any expert opinions/advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

Domain appraisal sites are worthless. You should never get an estimate from these kind of sites.

It is hard to tell how much the domain is worth without knowing what it is. (Even then, it still might be difficult)

Is it up for auction somewhere or are you making an offer to someone?

I don't think it's up for auction, just goes to one of those sponsored listing sites with a small link to inquire about it.

Can I message you the domain? Are you able to appraise it more accurately? What about a fiverr gig or something to appraise it - are those worth anything?

      Thanks

Start with $10-$20 and hear out the other side, if it's not for auction then you're the only bidder, it's completely up for negotiation.

I'd be surprised if they responded. They have owned the domain for almost 3 years and with 550k mo. searches, I don't think $20 is a starting point. But I've never sold a domain before so what do I know?

Also check at Sedo, maybe it's for sale there with a fixed price

A good thought, but no such luck. I inquired about it a couple days ago and haven't heard back. Should I go through a broker?

If you inquired through a selling site, try sending an email to the email that appear in the who is

And if the sale price is too high you could consider an alternative extension or other .com

I don't know if a broker, I have never used one so far

  • The domain is worth what people are willing to pay for not what they think it's worth
