Hello!

So I have had my eye on a business name for a while. More specifically a hosting business name.

I have brainstormed MANY names, and have a few top choices. But my #1 name Is only available In a ".co" extension (not "only", but good extensions). The .com and .net are taken, but the people who own them don't even have sites with them. On top of that, I have tried to contact the owners for the past 4 months, with no response. I think they are pretty much dead taken domains.

Should I go with the .co? I have other names In .com as choices, but not my top choice. The .co also sounds pretty nice with the domain.

I have had .co extensions, and I know from word of mouth and personal experience that SEO Is not a problem with .co. But using the extension on one of my biggest projects (most Investment), somewhat scares me for some reason.

Let me know what you think!

-Thanks
#domain

Personally i would go with another name and choose a .com domain. Com domains are the ones people trust the most and with a hosting company trust is a big factor.

The only people who may think that a .com domain is more trusted are some IMers who have been told that here or on other forums. Always by people who can't or won't explain that claim. (Would you care to explain it for us?)

The general public neither know nor care. Granted, you might lose Type in traffic, but that would be about all.

        Thanks!

Had that same thought, but the marketing campaign Is going to be huge so I don't see that much of an Issue.

        Anyone else care to elaborate?

    Hi Nicholas,

Yeah I hate to tell you the same thing others are, but I'd avoid any domain like that which ends in ".us" or ".co" ... the evidence is too compelling to ignore. Just think up some better names for a .com or .net or .org, or, try to find expiring domains that have your keywords and just pick up one that someone else has abandoned to call your own.

      "others" being one person.

Perhaps YOU would care to tell us what that "compelling" evidence is???

I have never ever been on a ".co" domain name, and personally being unaware of that extension, I would click off immediately.

    Just my 2 cents,

In my opinion the .com is the only way for you to go, it seems like you are investing a lot of money, time and thought into this project. What is wrong with buying a premium .com for $3000-$4000 it is an asset after all the value will always be there if you ever decide to sell it again.

I have 3 premium .com domains In the $2k-$6k range that are my backups. It's just that this damn .com domain I have my eyes on would be so perfect, but It's a dead domain! Can't get In contact with the owner! I would easily offer him/her $2k right off the bat, and work up to around $6k-$7k because I want It so bad.

Just wanted to hear some opinions on .co's. Not my final choice, just gathering some Info Is all!

EDIT: If you can't tell, I'm very fixated on this name. Probably wont go with the .co, but just a little curious about them.

Yep! After I tried doing It solo, I went with a couple companies. No reply, phone number was disconnected, everything.

The person with this domain doesn't know what he's missing out on right now lol.

I personally would go with .anything before.co. I just think people don't even know it exists and will assume it is .com
