Is This True About .co.uk Domain Names?

Hello,

I have a newly registered .co.uk domain registered at namecheap. Is it possible for to transfer the domain name to a different registrar without waiting for the 60 days period and can I also change registrant's name?

What are the steps required?

Thank you for your time!

You can't transfer a domain to a different registrar within 60 days of it being registered. Also, if you change the registrant name, the registrar can force you to wait 60 days from the day that change was made to transfer your domain.

This applies to any domain; not just .co.uk

I don't understand why this would apply to a .co.uk domain, Chase?

The 60-day rule is from Icann, but Icann doesn't accredit registrars or set registration policies for .co.uk domains, surely? Isn't all that a function of Nominet? I think it was, the last time I registered one ...

.co.uk is a ccTLD, not an international TLD like .com, .net, .org, .info and others.

To any domain? Are you sure? Are you sure it applies to .co.uk domains? I've never tried to transfer one, myself. Perhaps you're entirely right, but it doesn't seem quite right to me, and it's certainly not immediately apparent why that should be the case?

You can do that part whenever you want, with or without the 60-day rule. The person in whose name you want to register it just needs to open an account at Namcheap (that's free) and then you can "push" the domain-name from your account there to theirs (you don't need to wait 60 days, even for a .com, to do that part).

Someone said the 60 days waiting period does not apply to .co.uk domain names that's why I came here to ask.

Of course, i know you have to wait for 60 days if you are dealing with .com , .net, .org , .info

i just wanted to get my facts right.

Can't see any mention of the 60 day rule on nominet's site (they oversee all co.uk domains)

Here's a link to changing registrars:-

Namecheap's live customer service is excellent, you only wait a couple of minutes at most. I actually used them yesterday and bugged them with a lot of questions; the lady answered them all and went out of her way to help me.

Give it a try if you're a Namecheap customer.

okay friends, this is the reply i got from namecheap

    Dear Jideofor,

Thank you for getting back to us.

UK domains do not have to be 60 days old, or be more than 60 days past the last transfer date to be transferred between registrars again. If you need to transfer the domain out of Namecheap please provide us with the IPS tag of your gaining registrar so we could update it for you.

    Looking forward to your reply.

lOL... Sorry, I am a domainer and I sell domain names. Well, this particular one is about to be sold, so I just wanted to know if I could transfer the domain name without any problem.

No, that isn't quite how it works, Jerrick.

The time limitation has nothing to do with registrars.

International TLD's are subject to the 60-day rule because all registrars have to register them through Icann, and that's Icann's policy. .co.uk domain-names aren't, again not because of the registrar, because they're among the ones whose registration passes through Nominet, who don't have that policy.
