Hiring an affiliate manager or SEO?

Hi everyone

I am having a little bit of pickle. I am having a site on growing your own food with 12 months support in addition to learning material. The site has between 1-3% conversion depending on keywords.

The other day I put up a request for quotes on SEO work, and I ended up in an interesting exchange with an account manager from Zeno SEO. They have now stopped offering ranking per keyword because the latest Google changes makes it "too unpredictable to fulfill".

This again made me look at all the applications and wonder, well how can I then possibly calculate a return on investment on any SEO investment? And secondly when times are difficult to predict is it better to invest in an affiliate manager?

I have no particular opinion on this and would welcome all your different perspectives.

If you know your conversion rate for certain keywords, why not do paid marketing?

You should be able to more accurately measure your ROI that way as opposed to SEO.

Miles here... As an affiliate program manager for several programs, and an SEO, I can understand your predicament.

Personally I feel that between network fees, affiliate commissions and management fees, there would be more long term costs associated with running a successful affiliate program.

Depending on your seo goals and aspirations, a wordpress blog, writer and a personal virtual assistant could be a low cost way to become the authority site in your niche and build a massive list. No affiliate fees, no network fees... Most likely better return on investment potential.

But, every niche can be different...

Find other traffic sources than SEO. Get an affiliate manager, start an affiliate program, or learn your own SEO. Search traffic is excellent traffic but too many amateur Internet marketers rely too heavily on SEO and get frustrated when they don't rank #1 after a week.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

    Worst company ever..

Seo is easier than ever right now because all these companies have no idea what the hell they are doing because they cant spam blog comments anymore.
