Best directories to submit to?

Hello all,

we're currently in the process of writing press releases and articles for submission to article directories and press release directories.

We've a list of over 2500 directories. Obviously we can't post to all, but in light of the Panda/Penguin updates I'm aware that many directories are now no-go areas due to the adverse effect they have on your SEO/site.

Can you suggest a list of the best directories to submit to that don't have any negative effects plus are there any we really do have to steer clear from?

Cheers all

To answer your question, SEOmoz has a list of directories that are top notch, but the general rule is the more quality the directory and the more niche specific the better. And remember not to use exact anchor text anymore unless it's your domain name.

I think you should consider expanding your SEO strategy beyond directories though. There isn't really any such thing as a Panda/Penguin proof directory per se. It's more about the diversity of your link profile which is obtained most easy from creating valuable content and getting it in front of people.

I agree completely - however we're just starting out and article submission is just one avenue we're going down - I was just seeing if there were any particular article directories/press release directories that are considered must-haves and any that are considered poison (I know alot of sites got penalised after the panda or penguin updates due to the sites they were getting links from).

      Cheers

I'd say go with directories that have a wait time of at least 3 days before acceptance. The ones that are instant accept or accept within 24 hours generally have low quality articles all over the website.

There is a pretty good article marketing post on Hubpages with the top directories. They also have a list of article directories not to use.

For article directories, I personally like Street Articles.

As for press release websites, I don't know a TON about them but here is a good article about press releases with some of the top ones ranked.
