Those who downplay PageRank don't have it

I've been trading high PageRank domains for sometime now and every so often I will run into an individual who says something to the effect of "worrying about PageRank is a waste of time," or "buying a high PR domain to launch a site with is a waste of money."

Funny thing about many of these characters is... their sites struggle. Their pages take days or weeks to get indexed, their sites only get fully crawled once in a blue moon, and if they ever update their meta or title tags it takes forever for Google to update search results.

It's just a fact. Low PageRank websites are at a disadvantage.

Another huge thing for me is that when I'm selling a website (which I do frequently) I want it to fetch top dollar and having a decent, valid PageRank is a powerful indicator that a site is legitimate.

Buyers aren't wrong for taking PageRank into consideration when purchasing, and they often do.

Granted, there are tons of high PageRank websites out there that have never made a dime, and there are just as many with low or no PageRank that make plenty of money. High PageRank does not guarantee revenue, but possessing a decent PageRank does put you at an advantage with Google.

If PageRank is irrelevant, why is Google still using it?

Also, launching a website using a high PageRank domain rather than a brand new one is not a bad way to go. You do have to be very careful when choosing the domain however. If you're not careful you might pick up a domain whose backlinks have all but been deleted. If that's the case your PageRank will plummet like a rock at the next PR update (every other month or so).

Thorough backlink investigation is critical when purchasing a high PR domain. Use at least two or three backlink reporting services to get a clear idea of a website's backlinks. I commonly use Alexa, Blekko, MajesticSEO and Open Site Explorer.

A website does not have to have a lot of backlinks to achieve or maintain a high PR, but it does need some very credible ones.

#1 Common Myth About Aftermarket High PR Domains

1. They will drop the second they are transferred.

False: They will only drop if their backlink profile changes of if crap content is uploaded. Domains change ownership all the time. Google cares about content and backlinks.

Very good information. I will tell you firsthand that I had a hair loss website that didn't rank until I finally increased the page rank. I used to write 600-800 word articles that targeted keywords and I got nothing in terms of traffic. Once I got some quality backlinks, my authority went up a bit, and I started getting traffic.

If I could go back in time I would have just bought a domain with PR already.

My success begins and ends with high PR sites and links. Anyone who underestimates the importance of Page Rank is sadly misinformed....

I would say, "Don't believe everything you read".....

You want to rank a website? Well, you can follow the "keep creating great content" crowd that is starving to death or you can get relevant high PR links. (This in turn will also quickly raise your sites page rank...)

While that article is well written there are a couple problems with statements it contains.

First it says PageRank used to be the single most important factor with regards to search rank, but has faded in importance. PageRank has never been a factor, rather a summary of a websites backlink profile (which still is the single most important factor in search rank)

Secondly they said that adwords has made PageRank less relevant. To this I would say only if you believe that paid advertising has completely replaced search results.

Lastly, the article says that Google rarely updates PageRank and has only updated three times in the last 12 months. This is simply a misinformed statement. They update as frequently as they always have if not more so.

Well written as I said however.

Nothing new, page rank helps in the way that it gives you authority rather than ranking capabilities. You need high pr backlinks to ensure a high spot in google, high pr backlinks will pass the pr juice so trying to rank will bring some pr along.
