How can I use this video.....

Warriors,

there is a video on youtube that shows the EXACT opposite to what I am promoting on one of my sites. I want to host it on my site but with a big "This is not how to do it" message before and after it.

My options:

1 - screen capture and edit in movie maker
2 - embed youtube video with just a title "dont do this"

Can you think of any others and is it legal to use it as such?

    I can't speak of the legality of what you want to do, perhaps someone else here can shed some light on that. But take a look at BubblePly (http://www.bubbleply.com/default.aspx) ... maybe that will spur some ideas.

      Option 1 is out. Unless you are talking about making your own video.

      Option 2 may be okay. Check YouTube's Terms of Service to see if your usage meets their terms.

        Thanks for the ideas.

        I think I'll just embed the video 100% original with a big sign above it.

        Will save time rather than capturing it and then editing it.

          How about this:

          1. Embed the video on your site with some kind of title above it as you suggest: Don't Do This.

          2. Create your own video explaining why the last video was such a bad idea and what you should do instead and embed that below the video with another title "Do This Instead" or something similar.

          When you submit your video to YouTube if you give it a title very similar to the video already on YouTube it should come up in the "related videos" section when people are looking at the video you don't like.

            That is the only legal way to do it since youtube embed is implied permission for that use only.

            Your other idea is called copyright infringement and if the content was registered with the US copyright office the fine can be $150,000 per violation.

            I use a video off youtube in the exact same way... I embedded it in my site using the youtube code with a note saying that it was an example of not how to do the thing.

            You will find it valuable to read up on copyright law and specifically fair use doctrine:
