Best way to get clicks?

So I have a website which is increasing in traffic each day for some strange reason. I say strange because I have not done anything for this site, in fact I don't even know which keywords are getting me traffic.

I want to monetize this site, but from my past experiences I have seen that whenever I put a banner ad (either for CPA, or Amazon or anything else),it never gets clicked!

Why does this happen? Am I placing the banners in a wrong place on the site? Usually I place them on the right hand side on my site.
Is it better to give affiliate links within the content of the blog?
How to I make people click?
Now I don't know how targeted the traffic is, since I don't even know why I am getting this traffic. I never added fresh content to the site, never did any backlinking or anything else to get traffic.
And the irony is that a few sites where I did a hell lot of things to drive traffic, never saw this kind of traffic???

Any opinions on how to get those clicks??

    Wow! That's kind of strange?!

I would like to know whether your site is actually a blog, or just a static website?

Through a bit of testing that I carried out, I found that people do tend to look more at the RIGHT of the page.

However, when you include banners on your site, you need to make sure that you aren't bombarding the site with too many. This is going to turn readers away.

Instead, have a couple of banners that are RELATED to your niche.

The best way that I get people to view what I want to sell is through articles. This is done by me telling them what the product is about and then giving them incentives to click and buy. Afterall, they are looking for a problem to their solutions, right?

This could be free stuff or whatever you want. Just make sure it allows you to STAND OUT from the crowd.

Just make sure that you NEVER sell within your pages. This is the sales pages job. Your job is to make them click the link. This is much like email marketing.

I hope that this helped. Don't hesitate to ask me anything else if you need help. :-)

      Thanks Tom,
For this site I have not put any banners or ads yet, I just wanted to place them in the right place.
I had placed a few banners on my other sites, which were never clicked! The banners were all related to the niche and I only had about 1-2 banners. Maybe the traffic was too low...but when I did not get even one click for 100 visitors , I felt that maybe the visitors are just wanting information, hey don't really want to buy anything.
The site I am planning to monetize now is a blog. Last year I wanted to offer after school care service to kids my neighborhood, so I made a basic blog with information about my services, I did not even start the service and completely forgot about the site. But when I checked the stats I found that traffic is actually gradually increasing. I had an average of 1000 visitors and they have increased to 1500 now.
Maybe they will get less once I start tweaking the site and add the banners etc.

When you say don't sell within the pages, do you mean that I should not put my affiliate links in the articles? For eg. if my article is about -tips to reduce acne, then after giving all the tips, is it ok to mention," click here for more tips to reduce acne"

I think you can try to use an CTR optimized theme if your site is wp. Or at least you can see and mimic the high CTR wp theme .
That's weird actually, you should be getting some clicks even without a CTR optimized theme or placement. At least the banner will draw attention and clicks ...

You need to have CALL TO ACTION...as an example CLICK HERE TO GET LIMITED OFFER

    >>GRAB NOW WHILE STOCK LAST<<...

Links in your article is better if compared to banner...people go to your site to read...presell them !! and seduce them !!

And use plugin like pretty links or thirsty affiliate to monitor click stats....

    Track and inprove..Good luck ! O/

If your website is created with wordpress, it could be hacked.

I noticed that my blog had a significant increase in visitors that couldn't be explained a while ago. Then I heard that many wordpress sites were being hacked.

They do this with software that generates alternative passwords and simply tries over and over again to login until it cracks your password.

To protect my blog against further attack, I installed a plugin called Limit Login Attempts. I set it to allow four attempts after which it locks the users IP address out for a period of time that you can specify.

I also set the plugin to notify me by email when a lockout has occurred and changed my password.

Since doing this I now get many emails stating "Too Many Failed Login Attempts", so I am happy that they are not getting into my site now.

As your traffic is gradually increasing it is not likely to be due to hacking. When mine was hacked there was a sudden big increase in traffic.

Just thought it was worth mentioning in case you're have a wordpress site.

I think that too. But I don't know if its ok to put a link of a CPA offer in the article instead of a banner at the side? Something like "you can try it for free by clicking here"??

Receiving clicks from visitors are tricky, why do I said that?

You've seens many sites and if you're long in the IM, you could as well seen people post their result, clicks and click-thru rate.

Most IMers' do not know how to optimize their sites and hence their CTR was low.

Then, people had an idea like, what about create a flashing banner, popups, or maybe sounds, as an interrupting advertisement.

But the most important thing is, if people who enter your blog interested on your ads?

Like what I mean was, do you actually notice the advertisement on WF?

If your site is a blog then you should add Google Analytic Plugin or
WordPress Stats Plugin to help you determine where your traffic are
coming from and what keywords is generating those traffics for you.

You should also add A Call To Action if the clicks are genuine clicks
    just like what nightrider85
    says.

    Hope this helps?

You should really be tracking where the traffic comes from,

Use AWstats and Google Analytics these two will help you see where the traffic comes from, what keywords are bringing traffic and you can even track goals/conversions

How do you know that you have great traffic? Are you using Google Analytics? The best way to track the traffic of a website if through Google Analytics.

Next, you have to create a persuasive content on your website. Put a CALL TO ACTION in each article.

First thing you have to think of is why would they click...

Put yourself in your viewers shoes and think about if they would actually be interested in what you're offering... if you're not interested why would they?
