Question on Managing your List and your Website

The way I see it, there are two different ways to manage your list and your website. I'd like to ask you which method YOU use, which you find most profitable.

Method #1: Website Builds List, List Promotes Products

Right, so some say that everything on your website should be aimed toward building your list.

The trouble here though is if every post on your website is saying 'Join My List', sending your list members to these posts seems kind of redundant.

You CAN of course, promote your products within your emails WITHOUT sending your subscribers to your website, but you're missing out on all the extra comments, traffic and facebook 'likes' on your website.

Method #2: List Links to Website, Website Promotes Products

With this method, you build the size of your list using whatever other methods you can think of (solo ads, exit popups, as a downsell on your product, an opt-in box in your website sidebar).

In terms of content, all you need to focus on is creating good quality articles for your website, and linking to your PRODUCTS from these articles. That way, you don't have to create any extra content for your list, just direct them to the articles on your website.

So how do you play it?

You need to build a list ..period! Even if it "seems" redundant...you are still capturing new people to that list (hopefully everyday). If you keep your offers relevant to your subscriber base..and deliver quality info & help (tips...etc..) to your growing list ...you will be good. Then have your own product to sell and the sky is the limit.

Competing online means finding creative ways to go about things. You are correct in saying that it will annoy the living ghost out of your visitors if every time they read an article you are begging for a subscriber especially if they already subscribed to your list. The product list building would be more subtle and probably the best bet in obtaining genuine list members since they would really be interested in knowing more about the product they subscribed to. This could work against you if you just include all of those subscribers on one general list and update everyone on all your products and services at the time same. So to rectify both options I would

    Solution to method 1

I would either include my subscriber begging on every other post or probably on every other 5 posts which will decrease the likely hood of the same person being confronted with your advertising on every visit. The downside to this is its a hit and miss way of obtaining subscribers. You can also work with your web developer to come up with a way to display the subscriber option to all new visitors while hiding it from frequent visitors. This can be done by means of identifying the IP or probably using a cookie system which would expire on x days.

    Solution to method 2
This would be the easiest solution ever. Simply create your list based on each product or service. This will ensure you capture and update those who are only interested in a particular product or service and not on every single p/s you offer.

    Snow,

I tend to use a scaled-down version of your Method 1. Someone who visits the web page has a 50/50 chance of joining my list, as I only give them 2 options - sign up for the free gift, or leave!

No other distractions to send them off at a tangent like social media buttons, replying to a post, viewing a gallery, browsing, etc.

It's a basic web page, but as someone is only ever likely to visit it once, it does its job.

    Kind regards
