advice needed (super newbie)

First of all, let me introduce myself as it's my first post on this community. You can just skip some paragraphs if you think it's too long

I'm 24 years old, and about to graduate as a Chemical Engineer in a couple of months. I have always been an "internet person", I have had a PC since 1989 and I have had Internet access since 1993 or 1994. So, I am very well versed in "the ways of the Internet", but I haven't participated in any IM stuff until now. Actually, I was utterly ignorant about everything IM - I didn't know even the basic concepts (I didn't know what 'affiliate marketing' was, for example) until yesterday.

I decided to explore this aspect of the net and WarriorForum was one of the first sites I ran into. MY, YOU GUYS ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Within hours, my mind was overloaded with priceless experience and information which would take how many years for me to gather if I didn't read all this stuff, I don't know. Thank you everyone. This collection of people in this forum has created a mind-blowing pool of information.

So, I'm still a student as of now, and I don't plan to be employed for some time. Yeah, I'm still a "kiddo" without much money to risk - couple hundred dollars at most, but I find myself to be very "resourceful" and quick to learn. I have always aimed high, but at my current conditions, even some few couple hundred bucks per month would make a HUGE difference in my lifestyle.

My plan on which I need advice: Not a really creative plan, but I need to know if I am on the right track.

  • I plan to host a blog-landing site something as an affiliate for ClickBank.
  • I plan to write my own articles and market them through EZ and other directories.
  • I plan to have sound content on these articles. I don't think I have the monetary resources to run ten different sites at one time anyway, so it can't hurt to focus on the one I have.
Now, I am not sure of the niche. I have done a bit of research a couple of minutes ago. One thing: I am a guitar player, and I have improved amazingly in guitar in only two years. I think I can provide very solid articles as guitar lessons. One good thing about those lessons is that there is so much ground to cover (how to hold a pick, how to strum, scales, chords, picking techniques, etc...) so there is virtually and endless number of things I can write about. Even better, the articles will have videos (video tutorials are super important in guitar lessons), which again I can provide myself, via YouTube and similar sites (which can even contribute to my page hits themselves)

I can provide up to ten 300-word articles per day for some time.

I will sell one of the hundreds of guitar lesson packages offered on ClickBank.

While looking for keywords I have come across a five-letter phrase that has 11 800 competitors, and a monthly search rate as listed by Google Adwords tool as 2000 and by SEOBook as 6000. In my scavenging of your newbie guides I have concluded that those two numbers are very important in determining if a concept is worthy to invest on or not.

I also have performed a domain search, and found one very close to this phrase available.

So, my questions:

  • Does this particular concept sound profitable to you?
  • I want the site to have an easy to manage blog format, preferably like on Blogger. Is there a way to redirect my domain to Blogger, which means my entire content will be hosted by Blogger (and YouTube). Not that I can't afford the $10/month hosting by GoDaddy or a similar place, but it would definitely be better if I didn't have to, plus Blogger is probably easier to manage.
  • How can I provide good backlinks to my blog/site, and what about social bookmarking? I think this should be the most important thing of all. I really want to be in the top 5 Google search results for this phrase.
  • Aside from hosting costs, where else do I need to spend money? Is PPC an option for a low budget as I have ($200-300)?

Thanks for any replies and if there is none, then still thank you for filling me with enough information to digest for a month! If I read this post I wrote yesterday, I wouldn't understand even a single sentence of it.

It seems like you have a good plan in place.

      Here's some advice for you...

Don't over think or over complicate the process. It will be hard to resist doing it, but just start "doing stuff".

      Don't second guess yourself
Don't wonder if there is an easier way to do it
      Don't buy any products
      Don't slow down
      Don't accept failure

That's alot of Dont's, right? That is because the Dont's are really more important than the Do's -- when it comes to the Do's there is really only one thing that you have to "Do"

      DO STUFF!!!!
If you are just starting out and can get it in your own head right now that you are just going to continually do things until you see the money start rolling in, you will be sooooooo much better off than 99% of the "new people" that get into internet marketing everyday.

Thanks a lot Jeremy, I know you're right. But it's so difficult to just "do" something when first entering this business. After I've made my first moves I'm sure I will be a lot more relaxed and free to experiment. I am fully aware of the DO IT! fact.

Here is a pretty comical example for you....

When I first started doing Internet Marketing I didn't know how to make anchor text...but, the first product that I ever read said to put anchor text into the resource box of the articles that I wrote for the different directories. No matter what I tried I just couldn't get it right so, I just did it the best I could and published the article on www.ideamarketers.com -- broken anchor text and all

It was an article on video games -- Not only did I do that article, but I was so excited to be doing something that I must have written 10 other articles that night...all of them had broken anchor text. Needless to say, my article was declined eventually at some directories like ezinearticles and amazines I believe, but it was published immediately on the blogger blog that I made and ideamarketers as well as goarticles if I remember right.

Two days later, I had my first sale...from articles with broken anchor text. It was a whole week before I figured out how to make the anchor text the way it was supossed to be -- which is when I finally found this place

Even though what I was doing wasn't perfect, just getting the content out there was enough to make me my first bucks and enough to get me so excited and positive about Internet Marketing that it really made a difference.

I'm willing to bet that if I would have waited until I knew how to do everything that I probably would have lost interest and would have never even submitted my first article...I probably would have just gotten into a new TV show or something

    ^ Hahhaahaha, awesome

You are very correct, man. It's 7.20 AM here and I still haven't gone to bed due to all the research I've been doing (and because of the excitement!)

Tomorrow I'll give it a real start, writing articles etc... It'll be marked as the day I've entered the Internet marketing business Wish me luck people!

^ Thanks a lot there, I will act today

Anyone with knowledge about backlinking and social bookmarking? I heard there were some tools. What are they and are they worthy of my money?

Plus, is PPC a realistic opportunity for me (who has only some couple hundred $ at his disposal)

      Thanks for any replies.

I would stay away from PPC for a bit. Learn more, then look at it. You can burn up money really fast if you don't do it right.

As for backlinks and social bookmarking write your original articles and submit them to ezines, it starts the process.

Whenever you write on your blog, let the social sites know you have done it. Do a google search and you will find a lot of them out there. Beyond just facebook, etc.

Good luck, your one step up as you have a plan. Now just stick to it.

most decent hosts offer hosting for unlimited domains for only $7/month total.

I made over 10 different sites last month promoting different CB producs, and only 2 are making me money.. so don't limit yourself if you can avoid it.

Set your site up as a guitar lessons review site and write reviews of 3 or 4 of the high gravity guitar playing instructional products from ClickBank. Best scenario would be to purchase the products you review but with limited funds you could do consensus reviews based on testimonials and info you find on the Internet and the product sites.

Create some videos with a few sample guitar playing demonstrations and distribute them to video directories. Direct viewers to your site by watermarking the videos with your URL.

Make sure the keywords you choose are "buying keyword phrases". These are keyword phrases people enter when they are looking to buy as opposed to looking only for information.

May want to go with something like Wordpress. More professional look than a free Blogger site.

Regarding the backlinking, you'll need to do some study in that area.

Would not advise PPC unless you've got an excellent understanding of Adwords.

    Good Luck!
