What Is The Best Way To Secure My Products?

Hey fellow warriors,

I am just in the process of creating a product using optimize press. I am just wondering what is the best way to secure the paid product. It will be either one or two pages of videos.

Any help will be much appreciated

One thing that I have noticed a lot lately is that people leave all their pages open to being indexed by google, it only takes 5 minutes to create a robots.txt page to make sure your products pages are not indexed by the search engines, of course this does not stop hackers.

Nothing to see here, please move along......

Yeah that is a good point. I believe that membership scripts like s2member are the way to go. Just did not really want to set that up for one page of content. Will keep looking into it though

That's true, I use the plugin wordpress "PC Hide Pages" to hide them, anyway my method got into blackhat forums since someone bought, downloaded and uploaded it to share networks, then asked for a refund

The robots files works on the honor system, i.e.; Google will respect it, but there's no way to enforce all of them to.

When Google crawls your site, they'll respect the noindex/nofollow parameters, but only for your site. It's possible that if another site, such as a black hat site lists a direct link to it, it gets indexed under their site, putting it back in the search engines.

The only realistic way to prevent that from happening is to store the product outside the root (in a folder not accessible by a web browser) and then dynamically serving it up. That's how systems using secure downloads work with expiring links and ensuring nothing gets indexed.
Plus anyone with half a brain can then look at your robots.txt file to see where your 'hidden' pages are

Regarding s2member being hard... it's really not as hard as the official videos make it seem. I think it's great that the guy took the time to make the videos, but he's really not a great teacher.

It's a super plugin, totally free and very well coded. I'd definitely advise you to give it a look. Like I said above, what's the worst that could happen? You learn a new skill and get a great solution for all your future projects... and oh yeah... it's FREE

I'm a big fan of s2member for many reasons and you may even want to check it out for your one page product. When your get it installed and start seeing the power of what it can do you may very well start seeing plenty of other possibilities for your offering.

Another upside to jumping in now is that when you do decide to do a bigger and better product launch that includes videos, reports and downloadable content, you'll already be an expert with s2member

    Take care

I was watching the tutorials the other day for s2member on op website. It looks very flexible, and has exactly what i am looking for, but just looks a bit difficult to set up. Sounds like i might have to take the time to learn it.

If you're using Optimise Press... Then I recommend "DAP".

I got DAP the other month and it works seamlessly with Optimise Press and it makes everything really secure.

    Hope this helps

Check out the review in the "review section" of this forum and it pretty much came out on top.

There was only one thread where a disgruntled customer wasn't happy. But apart from that... Everything gravy review-wise for DAP
