espresso niche goal for a newbie

hello, I was just looking for advice when starting up.

So I'd like to create a niche website for an area around espressos. Apparently the more I stay behind the computer, the more jolt I need

I was using Market Samurai to try and identify a non-competitive area, but I found it tricky. It seems like the amazons and ebays are on the first page of Google and I know it's not good to compete head on with them.

This is going to be my first niche site and so I was wondering about goals. Maybe I shooting to high with making the premiere espresso site....I just want to get my feet wet and be able to learn as I go.

If you were to advise a starter in internet marketing, what would recommend? Is my topic too broad...should I pick a topic to do something less common?

Thank you

Mikey, when you see those Amazon and Ebay results, remember that they are offering specific products.

In Jim Cockrum's first Ebay book, he offered the line:

"People who are interested in [product] might also be interested in information about [product]."

You can compete with them by supplementing them. In other words, 'people who are interested in espresso makers might also be interested in information about making espresso'.

In addition to what John said, don't be afraid of eBay and Amazon on the front page. Those sites can be very easy to outrank and usually appear on the front page of Google because there are few competing sites.

Same with seeing Blogspot and Squidoo pages on the first page.

The Espresso Machine niche is good for targeting product brand and model as people will be searching for a specific machine.

Don't target: espresso machine, portable espresso machine and espresso coffee maker.

Use these terms in your reviews and content but they should not be the primary keywords you are targeting. People are not searching for these terms when they are ready to buy.

Target: DeLonghi EC702, Mr. Coffee ECM160 and Breville BES860XL.

People searching for a specific brand and model are very close to a buying decision. You will get better traffic even though search volume may seem tiny.

You can start with 5-10 reviews of espresso machines and then add a new one every 2-3 days.

You could add informative, "how to" and recipe articles to supplement the product reviews if you want to bring more traffic. (as John suggested)
