Monetizing Very Untargeted Traffic

Hello,

I have a site with interviews of mostly fiction authors, including quite a few really well-known authors. I've just gotten into this project but I have a large inventory of valuable content.

Dilemma is fairly simple to explain...the traffic to this site is people who like to read non-fiction. I will be working on getting a better sense of the demographic but I am expecting that the only thing I can sink my teeth into is that this will be more women than men, and people who like to read books.

So ....other than books....what would you do to monetize a site like this?

One thought I had, and haven't researched much yet, is the re-targeting thing. That way each visitor sees ads relevant to them. Anyone have experience with that?

Looking for any and all input.

Thanks,

Fritz

I think the re-targeting method (aka banner stalking) is a good idea, and worth looking into.

I would also look and see if there are any clickbank products that you could push that relate to your website's content.

Maybe something like an info product that teaches how to become a published author ...or something that teaches how to take your knowledge and experience and package it up into an info product.

If those ideas don't end up working, you could always put some banner ads on your site that promote weight loss clickbank products

Women especially tend to go after those types of products.

    Hope that helps ya Fritz,

Start with adsense and see how that works out. Although you need quite a bit of traffic to make it worth your while.

    Thanks all.

sscottie, the audience is not authors, it is readers.

My concern about Adsense is that there is no content on the page that tells what the page is "about" in the sense of targeting the visitor's interests. So Google would have no way of knowing what ads are "relevant." Keywords an advertiser would bid on are not going to be on my pages. That's why I am thinking adsense wouldn't be effective.

Does that make sense or am I missing something about how Adsense works?

Adsense does the retargeting, what's your site is about is (almost) irrelevant.

I would try to get signed up with a banner ad network that pays you on impressions, not clicks....

And then do a quick quantcast.com analysis on your traffic and match up a CPA offer thats targeted to that demographic.

Many times, CPA ads perform very well if targeted to the right demographic, even if its not targeted to content of the site.

    All the Best,

You could look for affiliate products that satisfy your traffic's interests.

First try to see if this is true or not ... Women like lots of things ... Split test some offers like fashion, fitness or anything which women like .. it will be a good starting point ...
