I have been using paypal for a long time, and have still never tried google checkout. Has anyone used it and liked it? Did you offer it in addition to paypal? Or as a replacement?

Quite frankly, never heard anything really good about them. There were really great "hopes" in that they would be better than Paypal and everybody would switch. In fact, people have been having as equal or worse experience with Checkout. Other than not supporting subscriptions at the moment, it's probably good to have as a replacement in case Paypal shuts you out. Consider Amazon Flexible Payment service too. Tyrus |

IMO Goggle checkout was very good. They first started with no transaction fees then they went to 1.5% per a transaction which is very competitive. However they have just changed their terms and conditions to start from May. The transaction fees will be calculated on a tier bases. Your previous months total received through GC will determine your transaction fee rate. I think you get onto tier 2 once you have transacted £1000 on your previous month. Im not very sure but you can find the info by googling it. The good thing about google checkout is that you get discounts on your transaction fees if you use adwords. And when you link the 2 together you will also get a google checkout badge show near your url in google search results. One thing I will mention is the same thing that I mentioned about Paypal in another thread. Any serious seller will want to get a proper merchant account. Offer paypal and GC as optional payment methods as they can convert alot of traffic. Do a little search on google checkout closed down or problems with google checkout and you will see that many people are having problems with them. The majority of the problems are reported from 2009 onwards. I personally use them myself and they have been ok. One thing that i noticed is that sometimes the money takes 5 working days to reach your account and other times up to 11 days thats like 9 working days. One thing you will notice when you read about the problems faced by others who accept google checkout is that if you get closed down they wont even send you an email to inform you.. If you are accepting Paypal and are happy with them then it is a good idea to get GC. |

Thanks for the input abs007. I wonder approximately at what point is it more worthwhile to have a merchant account instead of paypal?

Ok, great. Yes, I use Adwords also, so it might be worth my time.

I like the badge it displays on PPC ads. Helps the CTR. They also dont monitor you as much as paypal does. |

I love it. I offered it as a replacement. They don't all of a sudden freeze your account when you make some money like Paypal does. It's awesome. Don't know why it isn't the #1 payment source by now, except that I think it has limited use as far as countries other than the US ... not sure, but I think I read that.

The real advantage to Google Checkout was the discount ($20 off my purchase with no questions, rebates, coupon codes). Other than that, it’s just a way to keep all your online purchases in 1 easy to read place. I never feel that it’s disorganized or I could loose track of things. Even when everything is from different places. With Google Checkout you can quickly and easily buy from stores across the web and track all your orders and shipping in one place. |
