Hostgator loading speed?

Hi there,

I been using powweb.com as my web hosting company for more than 8 years now.

But the loading speed is just too slow now, I'm getting very high bounce rates in my websites, I assume that might be the server speed.

I'm thinking in switching to Hostgator,

Can you guys using hostgator tell me your sincere feedback about loading speeds? is that fast enough?

Thanks!

I have used Hostgator for 2 years now, and haven't had any load time issues that I can attribute to them. And they have helped me identify problems in my code that caused load time issues.

I am generally pleased with their service.

    Best Wishes,
    Phil

    Mathew,

I used Hostgator for almost 3 years now.

I'm telling you that I also used many other hostings throughout the years.

And there's no best hosting than Hostgator in terms of everything including speed.

You don't even need to test anything.

Just go there and buy the $10/month baby hosting.

I also use Hostgator as my old hosting company could not catch up with the traffic.
there might be some traffic issues when you have several high traffic domains on the same account they will even close your account if you use more than 25% of the SQL database on your server at the same time over and over again . Which is normaly on high traffic sites. If you have a high traffic domain better put it on a separate baby account. Just to be save as I don't recommend to play with traffic issues it is tough enough to get traffic ....

I also have been using hostgator for a few years now and haven't ever had any problems with it. The platform does take a little bit to get used to but is not at all hard to figure out. Their help section is great and has many videos that show you how to use every aspect of their platform as well as how to interact with different services and companies such as domain registry services. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking to host their domains.

    Hostgator is awesome for speed.

Is your site one with a lot of traffic? If so you might need to go for a dedicated solution, however I suspect that because you're asking this question, you don't.

I started with GoDaddy. Enough said.

You might want to check that the slowness isn't because you have some dodgy plugins or something like that. You could switch off all your plugins temporarily and see if the site is much quicker. Also is it slow at particular times of the day?

Another thing you can do is a revese ip lookup to find out the number of domains on your shared hosting... Reverse IP Lookup - Find Other Web Sites Hosted on a Web Server

If there's a lot, like thousands then it could be a speed issue because the server is overloaded.

Have you asked your current host why it is slow?

Personally I think Hostgator are awesome and would recommend then regardless of your speeds, just didn't think it a good idea to change over then find it's problems with your site, not the hosting...

I love Hostgator. Been using them for about a year and a half. Excellent speed and an excellent price. I would recommend the switch. I have used other hosting services and have to say hostgator has been my favorite thus far.

    Depend on your site.

My static static sites are fine, for the most post. However, a site a just update, I've noticed longer page loads during my testing.

It's: Download missing & corrupt dll, vbx, & ocx files!

It uses DBs, URL rewrites, etc.

    Actually I just noticed that it's a php/wordpress thing.
Some of those domains hosting on the same servers load pretty fast (the ones without wordpress)

Hostgator is the best shared hosting for me. You also can use cloud based hosting with Amazon or rackspace.

Before I say yes that they should be fine and a better host for your websites please tell us more about your sites. What are they run on? average concurrent visitors?

^THIS, and this exactly. Not one person except for micksss asked about your websites. There's a lot of factors that come into play with loading speeds. Your home connection, latency between your home & the location of the server, datbases, server loads, usage of the site etc. 1 junk Wordpress plugin can slow a site to a crawl. Without knowing more about your sites, a host really can't be recommended.

Personally, I'd advise against any company that's selling you "unlimited" storage/bandwidth as while they're telling you that on the outside, read their TOS and you'll find there are in fact limits...so which is it?

I think Hostgator is fine if you only have a few accounts. I would not recommend them if you are using a reseller account and you have a lot of WordPress sites. I'm going through hell with them lately and I'm probably going to switch to another hosting company. I've got about 40 WordPress sites on the Aluminum Reseller account. Everything was fine until about a month ago, but I've been having to call in almost daily trying to fix problems.

If anyone knows of a good solution to having 40-50 WordPress sites on a hosting company, I would appreciate the input. The sites are all for local companies and most of them only are about 200-300 MB and get 300-500 uniques per month. I have a couple that get about 1000 uniques. Any advice? I'm thinking of going with SingleHop Cloud Servers. I'd rather not go to a dedicated solution right now if I don't have to.

Hostgator is excellent and their Customer/Technical Service is great. We host about fifty wordpress sites with hostgator. You can checkout the load speed with the site linked in my signature. Also, if you're designing wordpress sites, consider WP-Super-Cache plugin to increase website load times.

I used many hosting providers in past few years and I will vote for hostgator and bluhost!!

Both worked fine for me, the difference is that bluehost is little cheaper than hostgator!!
