Ok so this seems to be a hot topic at the moment for me and new authors.

I stepped away from kindle for about 6 months now and it is crazy how fast things change. That is why I love the Internet. You never know what's going to happen.

Anyway my real question is, what is your best way you get kindle reviews for your new books?

Any tips will help greatly. They don't have to be guides just anything you can do to help out people with new books.

    One tip...
Look into the reviews of the competition in similar books, and see if they have contact information. Make sure they are non biased.
Contact them and offer to gift the book to them if they review it. You can use the gift feature of Amazon for this.

Hi Sandra, if someone gifts someone else a book, and then that person reviews it, does it show up as a "verified purchase" review? or no? Meaning, would this appear under the person: 2013-04-24_2105 - callenb's library

      Thanks

That is what I "think", but still not sure... the people I contacted already had the book, they had picked it up during the free days.

I am in contact with one guy that has a book reviews blog and organizes giveaways to his list. As soon as it is working I come back and report.

What it sure does is to help with the ranks. Once the book is moving, Amazon keeps it going. For the next one, I´m going to have something organized before releasing to give it a good starting kick.

          Hey Sandra,

Thanks for sharing your experience. The blog post you are linking to is amazing and all work regarding to search and submission review requests can be outsourced.

Sadly no, the person's review doesn't show up as a verified purchase in the event you gift it (as of last month, being the last time I gifted a book.)

No, it does not work that way. Only if the reviewer purchased your book, the review will show up with verified purchaser mark.

Sandra, have you done this? What's your message:reply rate if you don't mind my asking?

Personally, I ask all my friends and relatives and Facebook friends to check out the book and leave a review. It's a bit of pulling teeth but you've gotta hustle one way or another..

I have, but don´t have much stats to show yet (see the other answer).

I am also contacting people in the Amazon forums who showed interest in similar topics, usually high rank reviewers.

This lady, for example (first review):
Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: The Pearl (Elearah Chronicles, Book 1)

Others did not even answer my emails, what is fine. "Got get" marketing is always a numbers game.

I am getting some "unsolicited" reviews as well. Even a couple of trolls.

Why not just send them a copy from your computer rather than a gift that you have to pay for yourself?

Set your book to free for 5 days in a row, right on release. You'll rocket up the best-selling charts, get downloads, and likely, reviews.

    Ask friends and family.

Post to Kindle FB and Twitter groups during your free days. You'll get a lot of traffic and usually a few reviews.

Cam, sell WHILE you're writing. Start selling as soon as you get an idea for a new ebook.

By the time your book's written, and up on Amazon, you should have a slew of eager buyers. Ask those buyers for reviews in the back of the ebook.

    How to get buyers:

    * Create a blog

    * Create a mailing list

    * Blog, and stay in touch with your list

Think... READERS -- what do they want? How can you give them a great experience? How can you engage with them?

If you're writing fiction, think about what your genre's readers like. Romance readers love -- romance. Mystery readers love puzzles. Build your content around what appeals to your readers.

If you're writing nonfiction, create a blog for each niche you're in. Then write ten ebooks for that niche. Engage with prospective readers on your blog.

When you're writing nonfiction, if your blog's readers WON'T engage with you, that's a good sign that you should be thinking of another topic. Your blog can act as your own personal focus group.

The key is your blog. It helps you to build your platform (readership.)

Take your blog seriously. It's a powerful tool. It will build your readership. You'll get reviews for your books, without asking for them. People like to reciprocate. So, if they know you from your blog, and you've given them a great experience with your book, they'll give you reviews.

Have FUN with it. Getting reviews doesn't need to be a pain -- it should happen naturally, because people want to talk about your book.

    Good luck with it. :-)

    Cheers

    Angela

The best thing you can do is to create a group of raving fans (aka build an author brand) that willingly want to promote your books. This is the *best* thing to do but it's also the *toughest* thing to do.

Secondly, we've seen our reviews skyrocket by asking for reviews. Another quick tip that has worked VERY well for us:

For Fiction books, you can offer an alternate ending while asking for a review - this is done by a link in your book that links to your blog. Don't get me wrong, you aren't giving the alternate ending for the review, per Amazon you can't do that, but by willingly offering something more, and asking for a review at the same time, we've received 10X more reviews from this one tactic alone.

I usually give away free copies to my IM friends in exchange for them to leave me a review, seems to work pretty well thus far!
