Where do you get your images for your blog from?

Do you really pay at least $1 per image for your blog posts or are there cheaper and also legal ways to get them elsewhere?

You can try looking for free stock images but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for", if you're serious about running a legit online business then paying a few bucks for stock images is worth it imo.

You can find some free images on morguefile.com I sometimes find something here but rarely anything of value. Nowadays I use photodune.net and they have a good selection. The default is to a large image but I nearly always choose the smallest one for $1. Pay something and you will always get better quality

Yes, I do pay for my images. I have accounts with a few different image providers.

      It depends.

      > I take some of the photos myself. I create some (very simple) graphics myself.

      > I buy some of them.

      > I use Creative Commons licensed images from places like Flickr and Wikimedia.

      > I get a lot of my product images directly from the manufacturers. Go to their site and look for a link something like 'media relations', 'marketing' or public relations.

Yes, I pay for the images I used to my blogs since I don't want to have any legal problem in the future.

I actually have a membership to ThinkStock as I run a few moderately successful blogs and the value of finding the exact image I want, in high quality is worth the $200 a month investment.

Although previously I use Flickr Creative Commons images almost exclusively, super high quality images for free (with attribution of course) - I would always sort by "interesting" and you'll get some killer photos.

I would never steal any images from anywhere on the internet, the last thing I want is to get sued. Either through royalty free images, personally taken images or stock photo websites like shutterstock etc... I usually don't dish out more than $4-5/photo though.

If you're looking for a wide range of free stock photos, then you'll find sxc.hu a great place to start for royalty free images. If you're going to be using a lot of images, then a low cost subscription to istockphoto.com is a worthwhile investment. Always, always, always check the usage rights and never use photos without permission - it's not worth the risk, hassle or cost!

You can get them for as low $0.15 with a subscription from bigstock, the only issue with a subscription is you need to be downloading a lot of images to get your money's worth. I currently have a 5 image per day subscription and paying $0.35 per image but I have enough sites to make this worth my while doing. Bigstock have a very good choice of images for most niches.

If I include images with the articles that I publish, I usually use public domain images from Wikimedia Commons.
