Default Stats package for a blog?

Can anyone here recommend one?

I want something stand-alone. No external storage or access to the data, and not connected to the stats for other sites on the server.

You can install Urchin (the one Google Analytics use) but its a paid software and quite pricey.

James,

Pretty basic stuff. Which posts and pages are read, and how often, how many unique visitors and registrations, how many pages per visit, number of comments. Which categories are picked from the sidebar would be nice.

Should be able to exclude activity from specified usernames and my IP, but it can't be based on the ISP, since it will be almost exclusively local traffic.

Referrers would be good, so I can redirect them to Disney or XKCD.com or something.

All measured daily, weekly and monthly. Doesn't matter to me if it's bars or pie charts or raw numbers.

Cannot be a server drain.

I've got BadBot Killer, if that came with WP Secure. Haven't looked at BBK yet, but that's on the list. I've got robots.txt blocking the well-behaved spiders, along with noindex, nofollow in the head section.

BadBot-Killer v3.0 which came with WPS v2 has visitor stats but it's mainly to track IP and Dates... Was not sure if you purchase WPS 1 or 2

The stats you want are a little more than basic though ..lol Can be built if you can not find anything to suit your needs. If your interested in a custom built script let me know..

If you are looking for a paid solution this is the best I have used:

Mint: A Fresh Look at your Site

It is $30 dollars per site though.

For a open source solution check out this:

Piwik - Web analytics - Open source

This looks just like Google Analytics and works great. Plus it is free!

Will google analytics not work in this case? I hear it is available as a wordpress plugin.

This might do it Paul: WordPress › StatPress Reloaded WordPress Plugins

Site says:

...you can see your visitors actions while they are surfing your blog or check which are the preferred pages, posts and categories.

James,

WPS2.

That's not basic? I'd have thought that was the minimum for blog tracking software. Wow.

It's just one of the weird little experiments I do out of curiosity once in a while, to see if I can make them work. Urchin would be way overkill for this.

The important stuff can be measured in other ways, like registered users, counting of comments, etc. The numbers will be so small, though, that any contamination of the unique visitor count at all will mean significant distortion of any stats derived from that.

Probable over-the-top maximum: 300-500 individual human beings hitting the site over the course of a year.

Paul,
Some would be basic and some would be more detailed, I am speaking of coding wise..

Basic Stuff
Tracking Referrers
Registrations (database already has this info)
Number of Comments (database already has this info)
Unique visitors

More Detailed
Tracking of pages per visits per user
Tracking of what has been read per user
Tracking of Cat clicks per user
Tracking of pages per visits per non-user
Tracking of what has been read per non-user
Tracking of Cat clicks per non-user
Disable Admin Tracking

If you use Google Blog I guess it is already built in. You only need to add it in your blog. It is an add-on for your blog.
