hello everyone!
If i am running an online business directory who should i target in marketing in the early stages? The business and the audience in which the business's want to target are both totally different. In order for a business to pay, they will need to justify it. e.g. Monthly views/audience. Within that audience are 3 different segments.

Should i totally focus my marketing efforts to the audience segments with small efforts towards the business's to let them know we exist etc?
or should i just target the business's to get the sales if i have a superior service?

My thinking is i should just target the audience as much as possible, get them in writing reviews etc, then at some point i can justify a sale with a superior service.

I'm not 100% sure on what you're asking here. What audience segments, and what sales? It's hard to know what you mean, or give advice - perhaps you could try and explain in a different way please?

Do you mean that these segments are categories in which you will create content, and the sales are meaning that you're pitching on the fact that you're able to make your customers sales?

If that is the case, since you have no track record with sales, you can't do that, which leaves you with the other, presumably to get traffic?

    Hi
You target the audience, where you business wants to grow, and from where you are looking the business. If it is a directory website you can target all over the world. All will be doing directory submission.

thanks for the replies! I will see if i can explain it in a different way.
A new website. Focused niche. Being a new website i do not have an audience or proven track record to justify a paid business listing. We can ignore the segments of the audience for now.

Should i focus my marketing efforts in building the audience / monthly views without trying to make sales
    or
Should i focus on making sales as well?

My understanding would be to build the traffic and branding until it reaches a decent monthly number before i try and spend time making sales.
