Where would you look for an investor?

I've never seen anyone need an investor for IM related product.

What exactly are you trying to build?

Have you consult with your local banks? Perhaps they can helps.

I have heard of a website called VentureGiant, there are people on there looking for investors and there are many people looking to invest too.

I have seen a lot of online projects get investment on there, so maybe it's worth a shot? I have no personal experience on there though.

Kickstarter has been instrumental in raising funds for many small startups. Have you tried them yet?

Be careful because if you will find an investor and he will pay for everything, he will also keep 80% of everything for himself.

On the other hand, many ideas don't work into practice the way you believe they will.

I think what you're doing right now is a great way to find a VC or Angel. Ultimately, exposing the fact you have a business idea or plan in the open is the first start to getting attention by a VC.

Linkedin is also a great source, but be weary of scam artists. There are many "fundraisers" that seek retainers. DO NOT engage with those.

I have some experience fundraising, so I hope I can lead you on your way to building a profitable investment!

There are many issues when approaching a venture capitalist / angel.

1. If you're not putting up your own money, don't expect a healthy valuation. Example: you expect to sell your website for 300k, do not expect the investor to take less than 40% when you have no skin in the game. Cash is King and Sweat Equity ( your effort) can be bought.

2. If you're planning to talk to one, have a plan. A detailed one. Nothing closes doors faster than a person who asks for money and can't ask basic answers such as:

A) How much money do you want?
B) What does that money buy me?
C) How long does that money last?
D) How are you going to make money?
E) Do you have a business plan? Financial Forecast, Budget and Use of Proceeds.

These are just a SMALL snippet of questions that HAVE to be answered.

3) Sign an NDA - Non-disclosure agreement (Though legally speaking, a very rich vc or angel can keep you bound with legal costs to the point where you can't do anything, its handy to have it on hand and to make use of it)

4) If you sign a deal, sign a deal with a ANTI COMPETE clause.

5) Expect performance benchmarks, where you'll lose equity every time you miss a milestone.

Do not expect from the day you speak that you will receive funds in less than a month. It is highly unlikely in my experiences that any deal will close under a month unless there is SUBSTANTIAL historical relationships established.

I actually just reviewed a new WSO that focuses on this very thing! It's called Easy Cash Funding, and it might be just what you need. Minimally it will give you some great ideas - it created a lot of "duh!" moments for me.

Shane Natan on the forum just released a no B.S. way to get money for all your online projects....you should check him out...he is Legit.

I was just talking about the fact that if someone invests too much, they take too much.

If someone has a very brilliant idea but no money, the investor will get the real benefits of this deal.

I spoke to the WSO creator who was helpful but it meant hiring someone in the US to post for me and not sure how legit or white hat that is.
