Which domain is better?

Hi,

I am doing some research for a new website where I will be selling physical products online. The site will not be international site, but something like .co.za

I have done some research and here are the domains I am considering. I am not using the real niche. They are only examples.

The first domain is buyplastic.co.za and according to the Google Adwords Tool it has 320 searches for the keyword buy plastic

The other option is exoticplastic.co.za which does not have any data in terms of searches, but I think it is a great domain to brand.

So, please help me. Which would be the better domain?

Branding capabilites or existing searches?

    Can you do both? If choosing one I would go with the buyplastic.co.za one first but I think if you got both you could redirect to the other.

      If you could get the actual keyword domain (buyxxx.) I'd tend to go for that for the potential of a small SEO advantage...

      ...but if you're going to need to advertise to get most of your visitors , then the more exotic version would be OK, though for best impact think it should be something short. eg xxxit, myxxx, etc etc

      Should be able to find anything reasonable in co.za (for example) it doesn';t seem to have been mined and there are still 2 word generics left.

      I'd go with exoticplasic.co.za because it will rank well if your content targets "buy plastic" and related terms. And on the plus side, you'll still rank well just for having the word plastic in the domain name. If you create files and folders with the word buy in them it will almost give you the best of both worlds.

    That is a option, I am able to buy both, but which one would you suggest I put the actual site on?

    I would buy both. Although I usually go where the searches are and not what I think is better.

    I think the question is, will I be able to rank first for the keyword "buy plastic" using a redirect to the main selling site on exoticplastic.co.za

    If you want to create a brand, obviously you need the domain with the brand name.

    It's a no-brainer.

    You can get the other one too for traffic if it's available but the one with the brand name is the priority.

      The website will mainly be promoted via flyers and sales reps that intend to sell the products directly to customers. I will also promote the site using a email such as sale@exoticplastic.co.za

      I think the best plan would be to purchase both and build the site on the exotic one and use the other domain (buyplastic.co.za) as a way to get more traffic.

      Hope fully I can get the buy one ranked 1st.

      How does this plan sound? :confused:

        Not sure what you mean by promoting it using an email address, if it's something you're putting on your flyers I'd have thought you would be better just using your website address and having the info and sales pitch there.

    If it were me, I would use buyplastic.co.za as the main site and use exoticplastic as the redirect. You'll have your keyword in the main site which is already getting searched.
