Questions from a Newbie

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but I am just about to get started in the internet marketing industry, but I have a few questions I am hoping to get answers to, as I want to start off on the right track.

I have been creeping this forum, as well as reading as much as I can over the last year or so, and as I am sure you can imagine, my head is over loaded!

From what I understand, it basically breaks down like this (in it's simplest form)

1. Find a niche
2. Make or find a product within said niche to sell or be an affiliate for
3. Create a blog related to your niche product
4. Have an opt in page, and ideally give away something free with an opt in (ebook, videos, interviews etc...)
5. Get traffic to your blog.
6. ...sell.

First, is that basically how it works? (I know there is SO much more to it than just that)

Second. If I create my own product to sell, say an ebook. Do I need to create two websites with two separate domains?

Example: mynicheblog dot com and my nichesalespage dot com

Or can I host my sales page as a sub page within my own blog, and it might have a url like "mynicheblog dot com / mysalespage"

I am guessing you want to use a solid domain on your blog site, as in theory the content would be updated more, and thus you can get more organic traffic, where as your sales page is pretty static, and thus will be much harder to rank on search engines.

Finally, If I am having people opt in through my blog, and having them go to the sales page from my auto responder, do I need a squeeze page?

I know for some of you, this stuff is super basic, but like I said, I want to know if I am on the right track, or if I am totally wrong with how I think this works.

Any response would be really appreciated

Cheers

You are right on track... And many of your questions are better answered as you go along. Can't 'get' everything before starting.

Here is one way of looking at it... Your goal is to build an authority niche site. I recommend a self hosted WordPress site that will allow you to create sales pages, squeeze pages, blog posts, etc.

Squeeze pages are often used for converting paid traffic to opt ins... Your blog sidebar can also convert organic traffic into opt ins. Then you can promote your sales pages to your list.

Stay focused on your next 3 steps.... 1 pick your niche 2 get your domain and hosting and 3 install WordPress.

    Thanks everyone.

Like I said, I have been reading everything under the sun, so I am totally aware of social media traffic, and how awesome it can be. I just put "get traffic" down, as I didn't feel it was necessary to start listing off all of the traffic methods.

As for an WSO, would this be a method of building potential affiliates?

Actually there is no need to set up two separate domains is your website itself is related to the product that you want to sell. You can just create a Page for it then drive traffic into your sales page. Keep it up! You're on the right track! :-)

Focus on people and their needs.

Find out what your niche wants or desperately needs and how you can supply them with it.

If you focus people and helping them solve their problems and/or getting the results they desire, you will be ahead of many others who are just trying to "make money online."

Don't get hung up on the technical stuff. You can sell products directly from your blog either from posts or on a separate page. Not an issue at all. Some people even sell without a website by using a payment gateway that takes care of delivery for you.

Just figure that part out and don't let it be a big barrier.

That is the basics, right, but it's a lot more than that. You have to master each step along the way or else it all falls apart. What goes is an awesome sales page if you can't get traffic to it? What good is awesome traffic generation if you can't get your visitors to convert? Focus each step at a time and master. I would get niche research down first.

If you're new to IM then I'd definitely advise against trying to launch a WSO.

If you want to see why then sign up over at WarriorPlus and Affiliates->Available Offers

Take note of all the ones that have 1+ sales

Running a successful WSO is a lot harder than some people would have you believe so either stay away for a while OR be prepared to do a LOT of homework.

Good luck and welcome to he crazy world of IM

You know everything you need to start. Don't fall into the information overload trap or you might not do anything at all. One step at a time.

Totally agree with KayFrank and others. You are on the right track, so now take the first step. The beauty of Internet marketing is that you can easily make adjustments as you go, so do not wait until you think you know everything. It is much better to get stuck in and gain experience by learning from your mistakes.

    Good luck!
